True story: About 15 years ago I was insane enough to drive a yellow cab in New York city and one morning I was waiting for an available cab in the garage, and what we use to do is give our hack license to the dispatcher along with a tip so we’d get out of there faster. So while waiting on line I saw this guy in front of me and his hack license said “Islam, Mohammed”. His name was actually Mohammed Islam if you can believe it. So without missing a beat I said to him: “Mohammed Islam? Allow me to introduce myself - Jesus Christianity.” LOL!
It’s always been a misleading stat because Muslims name their sons Mohammed in far greater numbers than non Muslims name their kids any other name. If all Christian Brits named their songs John...

When you consider the different spellings of Muhamed-Mohamed-Muhammad-etc, it IS the most popular name.

If you do that though, it’s only fair to add together the variations of other names. For example, Oliver and Ollie (7,749) or Harry and Henry (9,136). We can only wonder why the Daily Mail didn’t.

But it's not quite the same thing, is it? If you name your child "Olyver" or "Hennree" maybe your choice should be lumped in with the regular "Oliver" and "Henry," but "Harry" and "Ollie" represent distinct choices, sort of like "Mahmoud" or "Mehmet" (sort of, roughly, I can't say for sure), so the Daily Mail may not be wrong after all.

There’s also “IBRAHIM 677.”
That’s a total of 7,445 for the Mohammeds alone, far more than the name that the Guardian placed at number 1 (”OLIVER 6,949”). On top of that, there are probably quite a few U.K. Muslims named “Ollie.”
And remember that Scotland was not included in “the list.”
The FACTS have been published by the Office of National Statistics. In order of popularity, the names given to male babies, in England and Wales, in 2013, are as follows:

As you can see from the above list, far from being the top, Mohammed doesn’t even make the top ten.
