Its as if the November 4 elections never occurred.
Today, the new House membership met in a private conclave and reelected every one of their top leaders by voice vote. This includes John Boehner (R-OH) as Speaker, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as Majority Leader, Steve Scalise (R-LA) as Majority Whip, and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) as Conference Chair.
At a time of one of the worst constitutional crises in our nations history, when the president is threatening to imminently remake our society with immigration amnesty a policy over which Congress holds absolute power Republican leadership elections lacked any debate on strategy to stop this crisis. None of these people had to provide a platform or a commitment as to how they will deal with this dangerously imperial president. None of them had to make commitments to defund any and all lawless activity. They were all reelected by voice vote.
Even Saddam Hussein used to garner only 99% of the vote, but leadership did not want to conduct a traditional ballot in order to preclude members from voting present or writing in a different name.
We are in the midst of a severe constitutional crisis, with the president threatening to erase our borders and remake the country through illegal immigration, yet Boehner has already given in to Obamas extortion by talking about the need for immigration deformity. With the upcoming budget bill being the last remaining check on Obamas power, Boehner, McCarthy and their GOP leadership lieutenants are whipping support for long-term funding for everything Obama is requesting. Yet, today, there was no opposition at a time when Republicans could have made bold promises to one another.
Just hours before winning reelection to his speakership, Breitbart reported that Boehner said the following to Obama about paying his ransom on immigration:
After a White House meeting last week, Republicans described Speaker John Boehner aggressively confronting President Obama over the president's planned executive amnesty, prompting an extended period of a defensive Obama attempting to justify his actions. But a key moment of the meeting, left out from those accounts, was unveiled by Boehner himself in an exuberant moment of boasting in a closed-door meeting with GOP colleagues minutes ago. Boehner recalled telling Obama, Mr. President, just give us one more chance to do this the right way. If we can't, then do what you gotta do. So Boehner is telling Obama that he will have the green light to pass amnesty, but asked for permission to try one more time to pass it legislatively? I have this quote mentioned by Breitbart confirmed by several people in the room when Boehner said it.
Read that again. Boehner told the GOP conference behind closed doors that he told Obama he has the green light to shred our constitution and destroy our sovereignty if Republicans dont do it through regular order. And then he was reelected Speaker just hours later!
This fight is not over, not by a long shot.
If Boehner ultimately follows through with this promise and either submits an amnesty bill or declines to defund Obamas impending amnesty through the budget bill, House conservatives must fight Boehners Speaker nomination on the floor in January.
We all understand that the lonely few dozen conservatives feel powerless to stop Boehner. But just 30 members can block Boehner from winning 218 votes on the House floor. Those who are concerned about creating chaos on the House floor should focus on the chaos Obama and Boehner are creating for our future of our country by allowing this lawlessness to continue.
Game on. Conservatives will be watching.
The GOP has it ass-backwards - they are voting with their political fortunes in mind only.
They need to find their soul and fast.
Don’t these repub pols realize they are quickly becoming this century’s Whigs? What oafs.
I'm convinced and have that conviction strengthened by every act of this government that we are no longer a Republic, but a post-Constitutional Fascist Oligarchy with an empowered dictatorship at the Executive.
I think politics and elections as we knew it, is over.
Fixing Washington from within an entire system corrupted for itself, is no longer a viable option. Stopping this tyranny will have to come from OUTSIDE the existing institutions that have been corrupted and via means that are not those that have been perverted to serve the oligarchy.
I have a little question for the Senior Leadership of the Permanent Oligarchy.
When will a general Amnesty for the Americans be announced?
Even Kings and Tsars and other tyrants used to do that.
You know, back taxes, old traffic offenses, the ancient DWI, the doobie in college...petty misdemeanors still blighting millions of lives.
Nope! No relief for the Americans, just the back of the hand and get back to work, send us taxes...so we can spend them on our cronies who will make us whole when we twist off from this legislature gig.
But for millions of foreigners? Luv ‘n Kisses. Do anything ya want, we will reward you.
Why do we elect people who hate us?
yeah, those are high crimes. you wanna toss him in jail for smoking, or just take his job away from him?
All I can tell you is my congressman and Deputy Whip, Pete Roskam (IL-6), told me to my face he is not for amnesty. So we’ll see if Boehner has the votes.
Its probably always been this way to one degree or other but I believe in the past most politicians stepped up and acted in the national interest when they had to.
Not these guys, though.
Smoking is fine by me but he might try to sober up a bit.
“All I can tell you is my congressman and Deputy Whip, Pete Roskam (IL-6), told me to my face he is not for amnesty. So well see if Boehner has the votes.”
Good to hear. Boener simply doesn’t have the votes. I have NO DOUBT that he’d like to ‘defuse’ this Constitutional Crisis by passing Amnesty, but his problem is the HUGE NUMBER of conservatives that see nothing good coming from.
Where can I find the language for this amnesty bill? I believe that there was a Democrat bill that has gone nowhere and will go nowhere. I am unaware of any Republican bill, which of course, will not happen in this Congress in any event.
So the question really is: what bill will be put forward in the Next Congress and how will the Congress proceed? Will there be hearings? Will illegalities within ICE be discussed? Will witnesses describe how political appointees have harassed, intimidated, and engaged in retribution against career employees? Will the new Congress be aware of the dramatic shift in public opinion on this issue? Both Houses will have the opportunity to stake out its own views and bring forward its own plan. My version of an Amnesty bill would round up every illegal immigrant in the country and expose them to a wide range of corrective action. Such a bill could be called an Amnesty bill without offering much amnesty, except for a deserving few. The devil is in the details.
I think its too early to judge what the next Congress will do, they are after all, politicians and they wave like the winter wheat on a spring breeze. It could be the gloom and doom that many have predicted. It could be something else. Current predictions aren’t worth much.
So people are fed up with the damaging things democrats are going and elect republicans to stop it. Then the first thing they do is help the Dems push through more of their harmful agenda.
At what point do people start thinking a third party is necessary?
if him were john boner, you would be tempted to stay drunk all the time, too ;)
of course it’s too early to be doing this. but doing this is what we do, and we just can’t help ourselves.
the point of insanity. the point that you want to hand over all three branches of the government to liberals that make nancy pelosi seem tame.
the point that you’re ready do grab a rifle and take to the streets anyway.
Brilliant comment.
Well Jeff Sessions is planning his own little stop amnesty party in the Senate so If I was Boehner I wouldn’t break out the Glenlivet just yet.
A couple of days ago someone here was thinking that with a new Pub majority Boehner might show some balls. No chance. Not for one second did I believe that Boehner would stop being a liberal mole.
“Well Jeff Sessions is planning his own little stop amnesty party in the Senate so If I was Boehner I wouldnt break out the Glenlivet just yet.”
I LIKE IT!!! Thanks. I refuse to concede until they actually win something.
Yep, I keep saying they all play on the same team.
