GOP can only win presidency by nominating a real conservative
The Washington Examiner ^ | November 10, 2014 | Philip Klein

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)

As the jockeying for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination begins, a familiar debate will be playing out: Should the party pick somebody ideologically pure, or go with somebody more centrist to win independents?

This analysis of the choice confronting voters is misguided, however. The two possibilities are not mutually exclusive. The reality is that the only way Republicans can win the White House and make a play for independents is if they nominate somebody who is a real conservative.

No, this isn’t about assuming a fantasy world in which independents overwhelmingly support every major conservative policy goal. Nor is it about crafting a strategy geared toward firing up the base of the party.

It’s true that typically, when this argument is made, it’s based on the idea that in any election, the most important element of a winning campaign is to be able to energize supporters around a message. Those are the people who will be donating, knocking on doors, putting up signs, posting on social media, persuading their friends and relatives, and making phone calls on Election Day....

HEAR HEAR!

We need a President who will say that we will create jobs by getting the Government out of the private sectors way.

I would prefer Walker/Cruz.

Walker has much more experience running something big like the state of Wisconsin, effectively. And Walker has won 3 times in a blue state.

For all his faults, Kasich is very pragmatic and he just grabbed Ohio with 70% of the vote for reelection. The School teachers and public sector hates him because of SB-5. But I loved him for it.

The biggest problem would be the fact that he does have a tendency to not suffer fools lightly. He can go off on them and as great as it is to see him eviscerate a moron. He is apt to do it to a reporter or someone that will make him look cruel.

He has said on numerous occasions that he could never be approved by the Senate. Too many enemies. Too likely to investigate and incarcerate too many on both sides of the isle.

Santorum could’nt even win in his own state as an INCUMBENT senator. Palin messed up by quitting in middle of her governorship. Cruz, Pence & Jindal are much better. I would add Walker to that list as someone who won 3 times in a blue state and cut taxes and defeated massive efforts by unions.

I supported W and Herbert Walker. Not in the Primary elections though. I supported W during his Presidency. So, it is not like I am a Bush hater, but I hope people will remember that we had to bail out the Saving and Loans banks during Herbert Walkers term and Neil Bush (his oldest son went to jail over it) and then we had to spend billions on bail outs when W left office. And his cousin Obozo continued those bail outs. and may I add this: I have heard and I don't know if it is true for sure, but I heard that Obozo is related to the Bush family. On his Mom's side of the family, of course. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/bushs-famous-family-tree/ And I am not saying that these people are thieves, I am just saying that I don't want to support them ever again. No more Bush family members of any kind in the Oval office.

....”When Repubs run as Conservatives, they win”...

Unfortunately running as A Conservative and ‘being one’ are two different things......too many carry that banner but aren’t.

I suspect the bad guys read our posts, find out who we hate the most, then make them the designated loser. It’s happens too often to be a coincidence!

What do you mean by "bring jobs back?"

I don't want ANY government, liberal or conservative, meddling where they have no expertise and where they don't belong. Government has no ability, no authority, to "bring jobs back."

Again, the best that we can demand is for the government to get completely out of the way. Disband the Unconstitutional Dept. of Labor. Cancel all federal employment laws immediately. ENFORCE all immigration laws and the border.

Praying for a hard-core conservative and will spend some of my cash during the lead-up. Whoever we end up with will get my vote as, not matter what some idiots claim, that person will be far preferable to whoever the Left has up there.

Walker would need a very strong, conservative congress to temper his amnesty penchant. If that could be arranged, I’d pull for him.

Why do you assume Mark would wear that same talk-show persona in office? It’s a TALK SHOW, for crying out loud! Mark acts like it. I’m sure he is perfectly capable of exercising professional control in other settings. The guy is brilliant.

You post two threads at the same time.

One says that only by playing ethnic politics can we hope to win.

The other says we can only win with a true conservative.

Discussion is fine, but it is better substantive. Just getting a bunch of wide ranging responses is somewhat trolling for a wide variety of one-off comments.
