As the jockeying for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination begins, a familiar debate will be playing out: Should the party pick somebody ideologically pure, or go with somebody more centrist to win independents?
This analysis of the choice confronting voters is misguided, however. The two possibilities are not mutually exclusive. The reality is that the only way Republicans can win the White House and make a play for independents is if they nominate somebody who is a real conservative.
No, this isnt about assuming a fantasy world in which independents overwhelmingly support every major conservative policy goal. Nor is it about crafting a strategy geared toward firing up the base of the party.
Its true that typically, when this argument is made, its based on the idea that in any election, the most important element of a winning campaign is to be able to energize supporters around a message. Those are the people who will be donating, knocking on doors, putting up signs, posting on social media, persuading their friends and relatives, and making phone calls on Election Day....

I kinda liked Mark Levin for AG....
I’m with Cruz, but I’ll take a look at Walker if he jumps in. No Mitt or Jeb.
Even better! I would love to see Mark speak at the nomination convention, and the establishment would be POWERLESS to stop him!
Sometimes you just can't win here :-)
Recruit Jim DeMint!
The government doesn't create jobs. Only the private sector can/should do this.
The best that the government can do is get out of the way.
When I’m fast asleep I see President Antonin Scalia and Vice-President Tony Perkins.
After I wake up I dream of one these five: Cruz, Palin, Pence, Santorum, or Jindal.
When I fall back to sleep, one of those five has become President and successfully nominated the other four to the Supreme Court.
No I am sorry.
America is wasting away.
America needs jobs. Now. Bring them back.
Everyone is robbing America’s future prosperity. Stop frittering away America’s wealth and productivity.
America bring back jobs.
Walker wouldn’t be my first choice for president but I think he has to be on the ticket. What other Republicans have been more battle tested these past four years than Scott Walker? He’s taken on the unions and the the lefty whack jobs in Wisconsin and won three elections in four years with the Democrats and their media butt kissers throwing everything at him. Cruz/Walker would be a ticket I could live with.
Scott Walker, with Rubio, Martinez, Jindal, Cruz or Rand as VP.
We have to crack the code that empowers the money people to take control and nominate Jeb Bush.
If nominated, John Kasich will win the Presidency much easier than any other Republican. I can work with that.
I would love to see Ben Carson in a Republican cabinet or in Congress. Not, running for President, just yet..
It won’t happen again. The Republican Party feels it got burned by the nominations of Goldwater and Reagan. They won’t allow that to happen ever again.
I think the electorate as a whole, myself included, have a strong case of Bush fatigue.
We are a nation of 310,000,000. I think we can find someone unrelated to either Bush or Clinton to adequately run the country. I really don’t want to go through another Bush or Clinton presidency.
Levin could never get through the Senate. He would blow a gasket more than once on one of the Senators. Probably form both parties.
I can hear it now’Why do you hate my country? Why do you hate the Constitution? Get out of the Senate you big dummy!’
I would live it, but he may be resting in the basement of the House in Contempt of Congress and I will miss hos radio show.
Besides, he rarely leaves the bunker.
The rats satisfied their base with the leftist in the Oval Office. Why can’t we satisfy our base with a good Conservative? People are turning on the rats and will be looking towards the GOP anyway. So, now is the time to get our guy in. And it is about time for the GOP to stand up for it’s base.
