Police arrested Tel Aviv resident Natali Cohen Vaxberg on Sunday after she released a film of herself defecating on the Israeli flag while the national anthem plays in the background.
She is expected to appear in court on Sunday and will be investigated for desecration of Israel's national symbols and state flag.
Vaxberg is a radical left-wing performance artist, and has caused a stir in the past after filming a video at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in which she calls the Holocaust "the best thing that ever happened" to the Jewish people.
According to a Walla News report, the video in which she is seen desecrating on the Israeli flag also shows her doing the same thing to several other flags, including the Palestinian, Canadian, Spanish and Lebanese flags. The video is titled "Shit Instead of Blood."
The report quoted a Tel Aviv police spokeswoman who said Vaxberg's stunt was "a flagrant, serious violation that disregards and desecrates the national symbols of the state and the feelings of the public. While the Israel Police respects freedom of expression, it is not absolute and must not clash with other values."

If she hadn't made the Holocaust comment, one could almost forgive her eccentricities. No such luck now.
