The Disunited States of America [the Left really *thinks* this way]
Salon ^ | November 6, 2014 | Jamelle Bouie

Posted on 11/07/2014 2:45:45 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

...In other words, the dysfunction of the Obama era—driven by the asymmetrical polarization of the GOP versus the Democratic Party—is likely to remain locked in place for the rest of the decade, perhaps longer.......

This past year, frustration with congressional inaction on immigration—and public pressure from immigration activists—pushed the White House to float the possibility of taking unilateral action to create a path to citizenship for unauthorized immigrants. The result was a primal scream from conservatives, who accused the president of flouting the Constitution.....And while the Obama proposal fell within the president’s authority,it’s also true that Republicans weren’t completely wrong. There is a point at which presidential action violates congressional prerogatives. Which is to say that divided dysfunctional government can have other, more dangerous consequences.

Next year,Republicans will have a duly elected congressional majority. But Barack Obama will still be president and will still have the legitimacy of a presidential election. Let’s say Republicans refuse to fix a legislative problem—like a fatal wound to the Affordable Care Act,inflicted by the Supreme Court—and President Obama decides to fix it unilaterally, with executive authority, rather than let his namesake law fall to pieces. By the letter of the law, this is illegitimate. But the Republican majority wasn’t elected by a clear majority of the American people,Obama was. And the president is committed to preventing an insurance death spiral or broken exchanges that could result from a full attack on the law. Whose authority is more legitimate?....

....Rather than wait for Republicans to change—or for Democrats to essentially get lucky—maybe liberals need to reorganize their politics to advocate for institutional change....

In some sense, our divergent electorates are just another barrier. Which means liberals will have to find some way to account for them. Whether it’s through institutional change—a national voting holiday, for instance—or something else,we have to change the dynamics of American politics.....

Democrats created the polarization and dysfunction.

They are like the mothers we read about who kill their own children then expect sympathy because they are grieving mothers who just lost their babies.

I agree with this much, we have to change the dynamics. End the fraud. No illegals voting.

This was the Reagan/Mondale 1984 election map.

This was the Obama/Romney 2012 map.

As anyone can see, Liberal Communism spreads like a cancer, and you can see why the Democrats want illegals to flood the United States.

Its is not the President position to write law. That is the Legislations duty. The American citizens DO NOT WANT “immigration reform” they want our Immigration laws used and enforced and then we would not have this situaion.

Obamas legitimacy was wiped out in this election. The Democrats that lost did so aided by Obamas failed policy’s and lack of leadership. The American public overwhelming stated they are done with Obama in this election.......

Now they’re “unauthorized”?

Gee, that sounds much better than “undocumented”.

“...That began with President Obama. From the moment he entered office, House and Senate Republicans mobilized against his administration, denying votes to all administration initiatives and forcing the Senate into a super-majoritarian institution through use of the filibuster. Legislation couldn’t pass—and nominees couldn’t win confirmation—without 60 votes, an unprecedented turn in American governance...”

That statement does to show how ignorant the author is.

These people are completely delusional.

I was going to write a point by point refutation of this piece, but I could not get through it. Every single paragraph is riddled with untruths, half truths, illogical conclusions, claptrap, nonsense, and ridiculous conclusions.

The writer, Jamelle Bouie, looks like he is about 18. Obviously he is not actually reasoning things out in his mind before he writes down his "thoughts".

“Whose authority is more legitimate?”

To ask that question is to essentially show your ignorance on the constitution. 3 EQUAL branches of government. Liberals don’t take defeat well eh?

If the American people wanted to stop the gridlock with president Obama, they would have elected all Democrats.
They want Republicans to change and alter the course of this country

“These people are completely delusional.”

It’s a New York thing

Slate 95 Morton Street, 4th Floor, New York, N.Y

The only place that comes close to this delusional ignorance
is California and it’s a close second.

He expresses surprise that (some) republicans refuse to compromise on spending vs tax cuts. He observes that older republicans hate all deals. It’s called ideological principles. I find it sad he doesn’t even begin to understand the concept.

...... But the Republican majority wasn’t elected by a clear majority of the American people,Obama was.

President Ebola got 51.01% of the popular vote and 61.7% of the electoral college in 2012. Any way you slice it, the Republicans got more of a mandate from the total vote percentages (about 53%) versus Democrats, and a 57% majority in the House and 52% (for now until the runoff in LA and one other state I think) in the Senate. These liberals just throw out misleading lies and hope they stick.

"Bouie...not... reasoning things out"

I couldn't get through more than half of it. I'd bet any amount of money none of these leftist squidges have ever read a book on basic conservative principles. For them government is just a gigantic combination piggy bank/Santa Claus...and nasty, greedy, conservative Republicans are trying to keep these goodies away from poor, impoverished Americans.

I don't know how it would be possible to reason with someone Bouie. He's immune to logic and reality...like virtually all leftists.
