Sorry, snipped off last word of last paragraph. Should be “comment”.

"The highest payment was to a veteran who received $208,757 in combined payments in 2013."

A four star flag officer, I'm guessing.

Military retirement and SS payments is not “double or triple” dipping if the person fulfilled obligations for both programs. If FICA was taken from their pay, they earned and qualified for it. Because we are now searching for ways to SUSTAIN entitlement programs for bums who don’t want to work is not a reason to take it from the hide of those who did.

I don’t care. It’s legal. If anyone deserves compensation from the government it’s veterans. 3.5 billion is drop in the bucket compared to what congress feasts on. Our entire government is nothing but a jobs program devoted to taking as much money from the private sector as possible.

these are vets...if they are injured and/or permanently disabled I have no problem with this.

what I do have a problem with is government pensions, for clerks, teachers, etc.. getting paid for life, and then their spouse...

1 job has 1 worker and 1 or 2 ghost workers...

for the rest of us, who are paying, and get none of this, it’s royal screw job...

Nearly 60,000 veterans were triple dippers last year, drawing a total of $3.5 billion in military retirement pay plus veterans and Social Security disability benefits at the same time,

NOTE to the "auditors": They don't GET these benefits; They have EARNED these benefits, and if any of you pencil necked, pin-head libs had ever served, you would understand!

If you're looking for budget cuts, take a look at the welfare programs given the the criminal aliens!

How come they never talk about multiple dipping - EITC, SSI, Medicaid, WICs, Section 8, TANF, ObamaPhone, Rent assistance, utility assistance, and all the other EBT aggregated benefits that our citizens who’ve never worked get?

A four star flag officer, I'm guessing.

Possibly General Fred Franks who lost his lower leg in Cambodia in 1970. He continued to serve and commanded the VII Corps in Desert Storm and later commanded U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command as a four star.

I have a friend who lost part of his leg and right arm in Vietnam in 1971. He also continued to serve, participating in Desert Storm as the VII Corps G3, He is now 100% disabled and draws both military retired pay and VA disability. He served over 30 years. He does not draw Social Security Disability.

The article is incorrect in one aspect. I receive military retirement pay and VA disability, but my retired pay is decremented dollar for dollar. Those who receive both have a higher rated disability.

Except for the decrement of pay, retired pay and disability are not related. Qualifying for retired pay requires at least 20 years of active service. For every one of those years, you receive a document from finance reminding you that if you were in a civilian job, your pay would be X dollars higher to account for civilian retirement plans, 401K etc, plans that allow you to build equity over the years. No equity in the military until you cross the 20 year goal line.

I wonder what the people representative will be getting when he retires. Politics is a rough career.

“...if the person fulfilled obligations for both programs...”

Hey, you’re challenging the latest attempt to portray all veterans who draw benefits as equal to the rest of the federal assistance crowd.

I wonder if this office has bothered to check and publish all the congress’ retirement benefits, and their medical care package and how much money goes to that waste of a group who, UNlike the military, does NOT do their job of protecting and defending the Constitution.

I look forward to the day when people lay off the military.

LBJ started this in many ways.

Hey, our servicemen don’t make the rules. In fact they’re compelled to follow the rules to the letter or face disciplinary action, sometimes severely.

Let the people who have walked the walk that our soldiers have attempt to criticize.

Actually, I’m an 8 year veteran myself (68-76). It was hard, damned hard in many respects. I didn’t get a retirement but I can envision the contempt for those who would beleaguer what I’d have received after 20 years of it.

They, liberals will always go for the easiest shot. The ones from which they don’t have to take cover. They know they’d damn well better not attack any of the EBT stuff or they’d be looking at pandemic riots.

It is a drop in the bucket compared to the fraud with SSI, for one.

I do think the Disabled Vet program should not be lumped in to SSI, but paid through VA. I’m guessing they lumped them together to give some legit cover to all the shady SSI crap from non-deserving freeloaders.

You are correct. I am retired with 20 years of active duty. I about two years ago I started drawing 10% VA disability. $139.00 per month. My Navy retirement pay is docked $139.00 each month. Retired ENCM(SS),USN.

How about all of the welfare pukes, sitting on their asses, pumping out bastards and bitching about how tough it is!

When you have solved that, get back to me. But until then, I will continue to collect the military retirement I earned over 32 years of honorable service, collect the Social Security that was forcibly taken from each and every paycheck I earned in civilian life since I was 16, and sleep guilt-free, each and every night!

Screw you, all of you socialists!

As far as I know....the only federal workers exempted from SS are the railway guys, who have a totally different deal.

I don’t see what the deal is...a guy finishes twenty years at age 39, and continues to work another twenty odd years, and forced to pay into FICA. I’ve paid almost 16 years on top of what I paid for the military time. I expect my social security money like everyone else. If it’s “bad”...then they ought to refund the whole amount I’ve paid to me....in cash (I’ll know exactly how to invest right).
