(CNSNews.com) In the first two years since First Lady Michelle Obama launched her Lets Move campaign to fight childhood obesity in 2010, teenage obesity rates increased, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
From 2009-2010, 18.4 percent of children ages 12-19 were classified as obese, according to the CDC. Since then, from 2011-2012, one in five children ages 12-19 or 20.5 percent, were classified as obese, an increase of 11.4 percent. The CDC has been tracking these data since 1966-1970, and at that time only 4.6 percent of teens were classified as obese.
The physical and emotional health of an entire generation and the economic health and security of our nation is at stake, Mrs. Obama said at the time of the Lets Move program launch. This isnt the kind of problem that can be solved overnight, but with everyone working together, it can be solved. So, lets move.

The list, Ping

Add this to the rest of the success stories.
Well, MamaObama’s intentions were good and that’s what matters!
I just hate when that happens...
Gee...
Starve them at school...and they eat a bunch of junk as soon as they get home.
Who could have predicted that?
Perhaps if more teenagers had jobs, they would nosh less. If Michelle wants to improve their health, maybe there’s something for her to chew on, so to speak.
Like my buddy who married a Nutritionist.
She had him eating such healthy meals... he would sneak out to pick up a movie and the bacon-double-cheeseburgers just JUMPED into his mouth.
She was quite surprised that he was gaining weight on such a restricted diet!
Make delicious foods taboo, and kids (and adults!) will be even more drawn to them.
It’s almost like a low-fat, high grain diet is bad for us.
I remember being in Grade School and there were 3 or 4 kids (usually from the same, poor family) that got Free Hot Lunch because they truly needed it. Dad was the Town Drunk, or Mom had run off with the Mailman, etc.
It was a STIGMA to get FREE lunch back in the day. I’m not saying don’t help your fellow man (especially kids!), but dammit - ENOUGH Taxpayer Dollars WASTED on this crap!
Enough! Friggin’ ‘Do-Gooders’ (cover disguise for SOCIALISTS) that always, ALWAYS do more harm than good!
Quite meddling, Mooch!
I’ve seen school lunch rooms. A lot of kids throw away what they don’t like and bring in candy bars and chips (etc) to eat instead. But you know what? There are schools with the same financial restrictions and regulations that work with the suppliers and are able to provide “legal” meals the students like.
After their school lunch of toasted arugula, watercress and bean sprouts, they all headed straight to 7-11 after school and pigged out on family sized bags of Doritos.
Much of the problem is our schools. NO PT, NO recess.
Grand son is fed at home at 7 am, he has lunch at 10:30 AM, then is starved when he gets home at 3 pm, then snacks.
Super is 6 pm.
To many meals in a mostly CARBS which pack on the pounds.
Grains should be the LAST food on the food pyramid or plate. Meat is first then veggies and fruit, then grain at the tip being the lease.
A type 2 diabetic diet would have worked better. Adding back in PT and Recess. Run some energy and fat off. Many of these kids live in neighborhoods they can’t play out side, and then you have Vid games to occupy their time. Instead of bike riding, roller skating or just kid play.
