Ruth Bader Ginsburg goes political: I can’t resign with this Senate

Supreme CourtJustice Ruth Bader Ginsburg took a hard look at the political landscape, saw a Senate that was looming as unfavorable to her leanings and summed up her fate: I can’t resign now — there’s nobody like me who could be confirmed, she said.

“Who do you think President Obama could appoint at this very day, given the boundaries that we have? If I resign any time this year, [Obama] could not successfully appoint anyone I would like to see in the court,” Ms. Ginsburg, 81, said in an Elle Magazine excerpt released on Tuesday. “Anybody who thinks that if I step down, Obama could appoint someone like me, they’re misguided.”

She also said that she’s completely able to “do the job full steam,” arguing that those who say her time to step down has come are wrong, Politico reported.

Is this for real?

A sitting member of SCOTUS is now unabashedly partisan.

I never thought I’d see the day.

The whole concept of the Supreme Court was that it was NOT political. That’s why it was a life appointment...no promises up ahead.

I must admit, I didn’t have that reaction to her comment. I will ponder your take.

Of course if I were a News Channel, I would have to come up with another 10% .
= = = = = = = = = = = = =
HMMMMMM if I had any ‘sense’ I would use 100% to start with then have to come up with another 10%..

(Better off just letting this ‘correction’ go more I try to ‘splain myself, the deeper hole to be dug)....<: <: <:

It’s not her choice, i.e. to approve or disapprove of judicial appointments for her office. An example of simple minded, egotistical, infantile sense of self importance.....just like liberal.

Ginsburg doesn’t like Harry Reid’s senate?

Probably recognizes that if she gets replaced with a Dem senate, the senators will try to avoid an obvious polarizingly communist justice because they would be held accountable (after all, they are the majority and don't need republican support). So if she goes now Obama has to nominate someone who pretends to be moderate.

But if she resigns with a republican controlled senate Obama could nominate Fidel Castro and the republican majority would be too scared of bad press to fight it and the democrat minority could then openly support it knowing the GOP will be the ones who will get the blame.

I'm only half kidding, unfortunately.

“I have to thank her for the reminder of why we need to retake and hold the senate.”

If you are counting on a Republican Senate, remember Ginsberg was confirmed by a 96 to 3 vote. The three no votes were Jessie Helms (NC), Don Nickles (OK) and Bob Smith (NH). None of them are currently serving in the Senate. The rest of the Republicans voted for Ginsberg, despite her ultraliberal credentials and refusal to answer questions during confirmation.

Do you really believe McCain, Hatch, Graham, Collins, Alexander, Murkowski, and a few other RINO’s will stand tall and incur the press firestorm they will incur from opposing an Obama Supreme Court nominee no matter how radical that nominee may be?

Do you really believe President Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, or Mitt Romney will appoint strong conservatives to the court? More likely we’ll see nominees from them in the mold of Earl Warren, John Paul Stevens, Harry Blackman, Sandra Day O’Conner, David Souter, Harriet Myers, and John Roberts all appointed by Republican presidents.

I am not sure what her point is.

This Senate is the ripe for any Obama nominee. Harry Reid can go nuclear on SCOTUS nominees as well as nominees to the Federal Bench.

The GOP is powerless except for blustering during the confirmation hearings...if Harry allowed confirmation hearings.

With Harry Reid having gone 'nuclear', it would be a breeze to appoint Van Jones, Louis Farrakhan, or Bill Ayers.

Ginsburg is a woman, therefore it must be Bernadine Dohrn!

“I can’t resign now — there’s nobody like me who could be confirmed, she said.”

I don’t know why this Ruth Buzzi wannabe thinks another whack-job leftist like herself couldn’t be confirmed. She was confirmed 96-3, even though it was known her views were outside the mainstream of American jurisprudence, let alone outside the belief in strict construction and original intent.

I find it hard to believe the marshmallows who hold Republican Senate seats today would put up much more than token opposition, if that, to the nomination of a clone of this Stalinist justice.

Just pray that she lives at least 15 minutes past the inauguration of the next GOP President in 2016.

Thank God for this old stale commie’s ego! We just might catch a break and turn this back to 6-3 before too long?

What else could she mean? She has/had pancreatic cancer for gods sake. She’s an old school dem who still values the USA of the LBJ mold but doesn’t appreciate the direction it has taken.

She’s the only person standing in the way of someone like Mark Lamont Hill being appointed.

Obama would nominate someone very much like her, and the “Republicans” like Juan McVain would insist on confirmation, saying the President has a right to appoint whomever he wants and the court shouldn’t be politicized.

The nominee would get about 70 votes.
