A West Side priest pleaded guilty this morning to soliciting sex from an undercover ranger at Edgewater Park last October while failing to divulge he was carrying the AIDS virus.
Under provisions of a plea bargain reached with prosecutors, the Rev. James McGonegal, 69, the former pastor of St. Ignatius of Antioch Church, will enter an early intervention program.
The agreement allows McGonegal to avoid a felony conviction if he successfully completes the program. At that point, the case would be dismissed and his record expunged.
He also must perform 50 hours of community service and continue out-patient treatment begun in January when he entered a six-month program at a residential facility for priests in Silver Spring, Md.

...and the beat goes on, The Modern Romans (by GTA who had similar problems).
Intervention? If he has the AIDS virus it would seem the time for intervention is passed.
He should be in prison.
Gee, I wonder how he got AIDs? He must have had a transfusion.
Planned Parenthood and homofascists are seeking to overturn those laws. AIDS Pride and all that.

Fifty hours with the Big Brother people—infecting little boys during the day—then back to cruising public restrooms at night.
How long until the Catholic apologists start screaming that there’s just as much sexual abuse and immmorality in the general populace? Perhaps, but the general populace do not claim to be celibate Men of God.
He was a reverend not a “father”, and they never mention Catholic in the name of his church, so even though this is male for male lust, it isn’t from the Catholic denomination?

MAYBE you just MIGHT have an apology for bashing?
Here's where YOU show your backbone.
Wow, I am IMPRESSED with your list of sendees.
So should anyone who knew about it. In OH, it's a crime (not well enforced, if at all) that anyone certified to work with children can lose their license if they don't report child abuse.
Early intervention for a 69-year old priest: Stop him before he “dates” again.
Early AM “intervention” was apparently this priest’s problem
Get out the thrashing rod.
If you don't live around Cleveland, you may have no idea how painful this is for ALL our Catholic communities, as well as the NE Ohio community at large, and especially for the 99% of Diocesan priests and all the other Ministers of other denominations that have always been selfless and dedicated in their service to their parishes/congregations.
As far as I know, there weren't any children involved, but there's also no question of what this guy DID do. For all the damage he's done to so many people, he should be excommunicated, shunned and exiled to an uncharted island, IMHO.
I am a Catholic and having been the “pastor at St. Ignatius” is a pretty clear sign he is a Catholic priest. The Church should never have “liberalized” to allow homosexuals to enter the priesthood. It’s been a very costly error in many ways.
Our former priest, Father Mike T., replaced McGonegal not to long ago. A great loss for us!!
Father Mike was loved by all in our parish (but a necessary move for the Diocese).
