The Green Mill, in Chicagos uptown neighborhood, is more than just a great jazz bar. It also has a lot of history. Back in the 1920s, the bar was the favorite hangout of none other than legendary gangster Al Capone. Capones buddy Machine Gun Jack McGurn owned the place, and Capone even had a favorite booth where I got to sit and drink.
Capones favorite booth has good views of all entrances and exits perfect for a gangster but Capone himself didnt always go out the front door. Behind the bar is a trap door down to the basement, where tunnels lead to alternate exits in other buildings. That way, says Green Mill owner Dave Jemilo, he was far away by the time anyone, including the police, could find him. Say theyre looking for Capone [and] say, Hey, werent you in the Green Mill? He says, No, Im walking with my girl. Im coming from the movie show, leave me alone.

A wasted hour of many of our lives that we will never get back.

I still have difficulty watching Geraldo when he shows up for commentaries on FoxNews.
I grew up about three or four miles from there.
My mom used to see the famous (infamous) gangsters in her neighborhood when she was growing up in the 1920s.
My mother turned down being Capone’s nurse. (Well, he was a syphilitic husk of a man by that time, but still...)
Geraldo looks like earwax.
You can go a long way with a smile, You can go a lot further with a smile and a gun.
I don't even know what street Canada is on.
It's a racket. Those stock market guys are crooked.
