Armed men attacked an Ebola isolation ward in the Liberian capital Monrovia overnight, prompting 29 patients to flee the facility, witnesses said Sunday.
'They broke down the doors and looted the place. The patients all fled,' said Rebecca Wesseh, who witnessed the attack and whose report was confirmed by residents and the head of Health Workers Association of Liberian, George Williams.
Meanwhile, a Nigerian man was today at the centre of an Ebola health scare on the Spanish Costas, which contains an estimated British population of more than 82,000.

How do disease-spread models account for the (insane) human factor?
Superstition combined with colossal ignorance and conspiracy theories is signing the death warrants for thousands. This is about the worst thing which could happen. The entire country must be quarantined at the very least but I’m afraid PC will prevent it.
The realization that they have signed their own death certificates and those of everyone they love will come too late.
Now I guess they are oppressed and fear for their life in their home country. The Messiah will grease the skids for them to be relocated in a town near you.
No Justice! No Police!
Candle light looting to follow protest.

Spanish media: #ebola alert protocols have been activated after a Nigerian man was admitted to hospital in Alicante with fever and vomiting
Deutsche Welle article on same incident using several sources. Despite the discrepancies in number of Ebola patients (17 here) any number of infected patients with a large viral load in Liberia’s largest city are a horror. Might well be the real reason the government shut down one of the papers.

Patients missing after raid on Liberia Ebola clinic
Authorities in Liberias capital city, Monrovia, have warned of the spread of Ebola after a local clinic was ransacked. The patients quarantined there left the site and their whereabouts remain unknown.
Police in Liberia’s capital city had restored order by Sunday afternoon following a raid on a local Ebola clinic. However, they warned that local residents now faced a higher risk of exposure to the deadly virus, as the perpetrators had not only stolen infected items, but had also prompted patients to flee.
“They broke down the door and looted the place. The patients have all gone,” Rebecca Wesseh, a witness to the incident, told the news agency AFP.
A police official speaking to the Associated Press news agency also described the incident, which took place on Saturday evening, as a “looting spree.”
The circumstances surrounding the break in in the district of West Point remained unclear on Sunday. Witness accounts reported by news agencies suggested that a group of armed young men had attacked the quarantine center, claiming that Ebola was a fiction.
According to the Associated Press, the group stole a number of items that had visible signs of contamination.
AFP reported that 17 patients had fled the scene after the raid on Saturday night.
The current outbreak of Ebola has become an international health emergency. In the six months since the first diagnosis of the current outbreak, about 1,145 people have died across Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
Officials in Kenya have announced a travel ban on incoming passengers from the West Africa countries hit by the epidemic.
All manner of low-tech methods exist for spreading contagion which I will not detail here.
That sends my paranoia meter into overdrive. Terrorists steal contaminated items, bring them to Western countries, and so on.
Isn’t Ramadan and the influx of pilgrims to Mecca about to start?
Jeeze, Nully. I can’t believe you didn’t ping me so I could scream, “WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!”
How much of a concern do you think this is ...
Cruise companies who hire workers from all over the world for cheap labor and hiring Africans carrying ebola? Wouldn’t this make cruising a danger at this time?
They stole everything they could including bloody and contaminated sheets.
This is going to bite them all back hard.
So, what’s to loot in an isolation ward? Mattresses, bedding, etc. Looting could carry its own reward.

True. Knowledge is limited, stupidity boundless.
LOLOL I want on the list...
You guys are just way too funny for your own good.
Done! Welcome aboard!
Another probelm now is that many of the foreign workers who had been caring for them have left. These foreign do-gooders have enabled Africans to not learn to take care of Ebola themselves, and these Africans don't seem willing to take on that responsibility.
At this point, the best thing that could happen would to not let ANYONE leave areas where Ebola has spread without being in a very long quarantine. Won't happen.
Good models would. If the disease spreads too rapidly, the numbers infected go tangental. That's chaos.
