Governor John Kasich has issued a state of emergency for Lucas County and surrounding communities due to algae toxins detected in the water during routine testing.
Do not drink the water. Alternative water should be used for drinking, making infant formula, making ice, brushing teeth and preparing food. Pets should not drink the water.
Do not boil the water.. Boiling the water will not destroy the toxins. It will increase the concentration of the toxins.
Consuming water containing algal toxins may result in abnormal liver function, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, numbness or dizziness. Seek medical attention if you feel you have been exposed to algal toxins and are having adverse health effects. Skin contact with contaminated water can cause irritation or rashes. Contact a veterinarian immediately if pets or livestock show signs of illness.

That is why it took Kasich less than 12 hours to declare a SOE and call in the National Guard....LOL...

That still sounds strange. Is it something local or in that state? or are they just too busy?
Wal-Mart was famous for it’s supply chain and getting things there on time. At one point they even offered to teach their competitors to do it too.
Times always change I guess.

Preppers should be able to distill the water for safe use, eh?

Distilling...recondensing the steam during the boiling process. I do believe it will leave the toxins in the boiling pot...not in the steam.
Someone will be along in a minute and clear it up.
I have to go to a poker party now.

This is some very serious S#!%. I just talk to a Berkey Water filter Rep and this is what she told me:
Nicole 15:49
At this time, we haven't have data for Microcystin. It is a toxin produced by the bacteria. So even though the Black Berkey Elements can remove 99.9999% of bacteria, we cannot be certain it will remove this toxin. Therefore, we cannot recommend using the Berkey Elements to filter water contaminated with Microcystin.
If a Berkey Water Filter can't make it fit to drink I wonder how it ever will every be fit to drink! Berkeys are used to make good drinkable water by many people working in third world hell holes were passable water is what we would call sludge. Looks to me that the excrement has collided with the rotating air circulator!

That doesn’t sound good at all.
Usually, they just blend it with untainted water until it is under the EPA PPM levels. Unless it’s something really bad.

Gov. Kasich is up for re-election this year. You just know the way he handles this water shortage will be judged very harshly by his opponent, an Ed Fitzgerald. This water shortage is not necessarily the Governors’ fault. The over-fertilization of local water has been going on unabated for years. I recall in 1974 when I heard that Lake Erie in Ohio had actually caught on fire, so thick it had become with sludge and discarded fuel residues.
To: Kartographer
I would be diverting my down spouts into the rain barrels. Should be safe after being filtered through the AquaCera Ceracarb or even the Sawyer Mini.
Wonder how much of the rainfall around there contains evaporation from the lake and if the rain could still hold the toxin?

Rahm and the Dems will never let a crisis go to waste.
I don’t remember that sludge stuff in the 70’s.
Just hearing about the “Erie Canal”.

My son moved to Columbus a few months back...any FReepers could tell me if this affects the whole state or near Columbus I would be most grateful. ..I am not familiar with that geography. ..sorry for my ignorance on that.
Hope for a quick resolution for you guys. Stay safe and God bless.
