I firmly believe Mecca will be destroyed in time. Evil will eventually be removed.
I hate to sound naïve, but if this is also an Islamic shrine, why are they blowing it up? As well as others in Iraq? It makes no sense.
Of course, why do I expect rationality from these people?
Think of it as Protestants blowing up a Catholic church because it has ‘idols’ and you’ll get some insight. Extreme Sunnis view the Shia practice of venerating shrines as heretical.

.... Well at least they blew up something that was unimportant! ..... OK ... just kidding .... this WAS a major historical site ... And I am very concerned that this event is eerily similar to the Talibani behavior of destroying up major religious iconic sites before the events of 9/11.
..... Yup ... you are correct ..... Most of these folks are illiterate and unknowledgable of their history .... they are mostly only schooled in the "Do's and Don'ts" of the teachings of Islam. They do not understand and are totally unaware that the three major religions .... Christianity, Judaism, and Islam share the same early history.
