Ditched the cable a few years back — found one of those old fogey stations that runs classic shows.

“Rockford Files” was appointment viewing weekdays at 10PM.
Loved the show as a kid, and loved being able to watch it again.

Thanks for the memories, Jimmy

Yep. That was the movie. Really funny and lighthearted movie. I saw it just a few days ago and it was a reminder that funny movies don’t need the f bomb to be thrown around a hundred times a scene. I think the only swearing I heard in that movie was by Joan Hackett saying the word damn a few times. Sad to see how much our culture has truly degenerated over the past few decades.

I guess it depends on the meaning of “qualified” to paraphrase an old Garner favorite, “Bill” Clinton.

Being a big fan of Julie Andrews, it’s a bit odd to see her in that vein. Looks like it has a more intricate script than the Hollywood usual. I might give it a look.

Jack “Bart Maverick” Kelly (1927-1992) was a just a year old than Garner. Kelly was a Republican and for a time the nonpartisan mayor of Huntington Beach, CA.

Between movies and TV, he had one hell of a career.

Something about the way his character and his acting skills came across in front of a camera made him instantly likeable.

James Garner joins the pantheon of unforgettable American character actors.

I’ve read it was his favorite.

I catch if from time to time on TBS. They’ll probably play it this week as a tribute.

I really enjoyed Garner’s performances.

There were many, but two of my favorites were:

Support Your Local Sheriff and
Support Your Local Gun-fighter

Also enjoyed the Rockford Files

Comedies in those days were very enjoyable. The whole family could watch because the double entandre was such that the stuff was couched so the adults would get it and the kids wouldn’t even know.

Our entertainment industry has gone down hill so bad.

I miss your era of comedy James.

If you like The Thrill of It All (1963) with Doris Day, maybe you remember “Move over Darling”

James Garner just had his missing wife Doris Day declared legally wed as she was lost in an accident for 7 years. He got remarried and on his honeymoon guess who shows up and isn’t dead? Laugh riot.

James Garner is one of the great ones. I loved him in “Murphy’s Romance” with Sally Fields (How do you want your eggs cooked).

Sunset with Bruce Willis and Julie Andrews. The story was “all true except a lie or true.” JG played Wyatt Earp, BW was Tom Mix, and JA was Charlie Chapin’s much abused wife.

Victor, Victoria with Julie Andrews, Robert Preston, Alex Carras. (”Oh hell, I don’t care if you’re a man!”)

The Notebook.

He and Charles Durning played in a one season TV drama about the Supreme Court. He played the Chief Justice. I remember how badly he limped in it. Of course, it wasn’t renewed.

Mr. Garner, RIP you are one of the good guys.
