HIV infections are rising among gay men in many parts of the world, the World Health Organization warned Friday, urging all men who have sex with men to take antiretroviral drugs to prevent infection.
"We are seeing exploding epidemics," warned Gottfried Hirnschall, who heads WHO's HIV department.
Infection rates are rising again among men who have sex with men -- the group at the epicentre of AIDS pandemic when it first emerged 33 years ago, he told reporters in Geneva.
While images of skeletal men dying of AIDS in the 1980s pushed the world to act, a younger generation that has grown up among new treatments that make it possible to live with HIV are less focused on the disease, he suggested.
Today, this group is 19 times more likely than the general population to be infected by HIV, Hirnschall said.
In Bangkok for instance, the incidence of HIV among men who have sex with men stands at 5.7 percent, compared to less than 1.0 percent for the overall population, he said.
n its new recommendations for combatting the HIV/AIDS pandemic, published Friday, the UN health agency therefore for the first time "strongly recommends men who have sex with men consider taking antiretroviral medicines as an additional method of preventing HIV infection".
US authorities made the same recommendation in May.
Taking pre-exposure prophylaxis medication, for instance as a single daily pill combining two antiretrovirals, in addition to using condoms, has been estimated to cut HIV incidence among such men by 20-25 percent, WHO said, stressing that this could avert "up to one million new infections among this group over 10 years".
The new guidelines also focus on other high-risk groups, pointing out that men who have sex with men, transgender people, prisoners, people who inject drugs...

As if the safe sex heterosexuals are expected to practice for fear of disease and pregnancy are impossible for homosexuals, who only have to worry about disease. Solution instead is 10K per year drug cocktails to which the disease will evolve resistance due to evolution faster because no one takes that many pills consistently if their lives don’t seem to depend on it. We can base that on the half of TB sufferers who complete their course in full, and they HAVE a potentially fatal disease.

Lepers are placed in colonies, TB patients are confined in isolated institutions, maybe non-celibate homosexuals (if there is such a thing) should be removed from society and placed in colonies as well - for the sake of the whole.
We don’t need preventative drugs. What we need is to find a way to speed up the course of the infection. If we reduced the time from infection to death to 30 days, HIV/AIDS will become a thing of the past. Keeping infected people alive allows them to spread the virus which is leading to the “exploding” of the virus among homosexual men.
We were told in the 1980s the truth: HIV was hard to catch, you could not catch it from a sneeze, a handshake, or a mosquito.
Discover Magazine in 1985 told the truth: HIV transmission and infection was prevalent in the gay male community largely due to a specific risky homosexual behavior (anal sex), and while possible, it was hard to transmit from a male to a female in vaginal sex. Similarly, it was almost impossible to transmit from female to male via vaginal sex.
So the heterosexuals discounted HIV/AIDS as a "gay disease". But the politically correct police decided heterosexuals "must be made to care", so they declared it a "sexually transmitted disease", not a "gay disease", and highlighted heterosexual transmission, with no consideration of the specific behaviors which may have transmitted it. They lumped in transsexual females into the female category to raise the number of "females" who were infected by "heterosexual sex". They refused to drill down into possible IV drug use among infected heterosexuals, or high risk sexual behavior, especially given changing sexual morals over the generations. They focused on statistics from Africa, where ignorance and other factors raised the risk of heterosexual transmission. And they then took those statistics and told us they applied to the general, first-world heterosexual population.
They promoted the "Get Tested" campaign, which was propaganda to scare the heterosexual community. Moochelle pushed this propaganda as the "responsible thing to do."
Back in 2005 Discover Magazine rescinded and apologized for its 1985 article, never mind that no fact stated in the 1985 article was untrue. Discover's 2005 point was there was significant HIV infection among heterosexual women in Africa. And therefore, political correctness had to rule.
I also just read a Facebook post that viral researchers are trying to blame HIV's "discrimination" on different strains of the virus. Really. They are really blaming the difference on the theory of a homophobic single-cell organism.
Also, never mind the obvious control group: lesbians. If HIV/AIDS is just another sexually transmitted disease, like herpes, and can be transmitted by infected females to their partners (a key necessity in for the heterosexual AIDS myth to be accepted) why is there not much infection in the lesbian community? Why are they not encouraging lesbians to "get tested"?
Now we see stats showing such severe infection rates among homosexual men and transsexual women (i.e., homosexual men), to the point a special exception must be made for them, and expensive preemptive retroviral drugs given to them.
The contradiction is writ large: If we are all at risk, and all should get regular testing, why are the retroviral drugs only recommended for homosexual men?
The politically correct should not be able to have it both ways. HIV/AIDS cannot be a universal disease we are all at risk of catching, and a disease which dominantly infects gay males, unless considering how the disease is transmitted (i.e., behavior). But they are trying to have it both ways. Homophobic viral strains are attacking gay males, so we must provide them free retroviral drugs, and not dare suggest they modify their behavior--in fact, the whole "safe sex" thing is not spoken about nearly as much.
This whole affair is like the propaganda in a totalitarian county. To me, the truth screams through. To the liberal and politically correct, they simply cannot see the truth.
And the truth is, preemptive retroviral drugs (paid for by Obamacare), any sex will be seen as "safe", and the epidemic will continue, and grow.

Does anyone else recall a TV interview back in the 80s of a homosexual who said that they were going to deliberately contaminate the blood supply, because funding AIDS research would only be increased if it was a threat to everyone?
