The Sons of Iraq Abandoned By Their American Allies

... Now the ISIS killers are slaughtering them.

-excerpt-

The Sahwa's decision to ally with us was the primary contributor to the calming of central Iraq from 2007-09. Without the Sahwa, I suspect the outcome of the vaunted military "surge" would have been vastly different. The number of Iraqis in the Sahwa movement grew into the tens of thousands, as U.S. forces' outreach to small groups of armed men evolved into larger circles of family members, friends and tribal groups. "

-excerpt-

Still, the goal of our office was to find ways to foster life after the fight with the Sahwa fully embedded in Iraq, including in its security services. This is what we told the Sahwa and their U.S.-commander counterparts who were trying to manage Sahwa fears and expectations. .... We, the United States of America, had made the Sahwa and their Sunni popular base a promise, a moral commitment, when they took up the fight beside us beginning in 2007. We told the Sons of Iraq that we would work out the operational mechanisms with the Iraqi government and not leave them twisting in the wind. We made this promise time and again all over Iraq.

-excerpt-

The coalition's payment program for the Sahwa necessitated gathering personal identification data on every member, close to 100,000 names; continuing the payments was going to be under the obligation of the Iraqi government after the coalition turned over governing authority to Baghdad. I remember when we delivered the database to Prime Minister Maliki's office. The rest is history. He never attempted to fulfill his part of the bargain. Instead, the Sahwa were dismembered piecemeal, including extrajudicial killings, internment and expulsion from Iraq. After U.S. forces withdrew from Iraq in 2011, U.S. diplomats sat idly by behind concrete walls.

You cooperate with one president and he makes promises. Then along comes another president intent on destroying anything the previous president accomplished. So, you get thrown to the wolves. It will be a century before we overcome the damage Obama has done to the country’s integrity. (Assuming we ever do.) He has betrayed South Korea and Poland, to name just two.

This is little different from GHW Bush and the Kurds after Gulf War #1. Saddam slaughtered those people, and the Bush administration ignored their pleas.

The Sahwa's decision to ally with us was the primary contributor to the calming of central Iraq from 2007-09.

When you collaborate with the enemy (that's us Infidels) you will be dealt with harshly when the fundamental Muslims, who are following the Koran and Hadiths get a hold of you.

(Malaki) He never attempted to fulfill his part of the bargain. Instead, the Sahwa were dismembered piecemeal, including extrajudicial killings, internment and expulsion from Iraq.

Malaki is a Shiite, and should have no interest in funding Sunni Muslims.
The fundamental Sunnis consider the Shiites heretics, and hate them, and will kill them as they will kill us Infidels.- Tom

It is always the democrats that deny our allies support. Started with Jimmy Carter’s Nixonion congress critters and the fall of Saigon.

I would consider myself pro Kurd, and I was appalled at that episode.

But knucklehead Bush considers Islam a religion of peace, and doesn't seem to have any understanding of the politics of that area.Where were his advisors?

Granted the Kurds are Sunnis like ISIS, but their separate culture from the Arabs makes them more amenable to being reasonable people to deal with from an Infidel point of view. -Tom

“It is always the democrats that deny our allies support.”

Our political parties have made the nation politically bipolar. What a trial we must be to countries that depend on us. I suspect there is a secret nuclear arms race on right now as our former allies hustle to develop and test nukes so they can defend themselves against China and North Korea. Won’t it be ironic that President Nobel Peace Prize will be responsible for the biggest arms race since the cold war?

The NORKS always challenge the new president with a crisis to see what they can get away with. When Nixon was elected they shot a couple of US Army officers over the DMZ. Nixon immediately ordered up a couple of carrier task groups and said he’d blast them back to the stone age. The NORKS hastily backed down and provided video of them shooting the marksmen who allegedly did the killing, allegedly without orders. No more problems for Nixon. But Obama failed the test. The NORKS sank the Choenan. SK begged Obama to respond with force. They even released data on the attack to shame him into moving. He sent a sternly worded diplomatic note. We’ve had nothing but problems with them since.

If I were SK I’d be developing my own nuclear umbrella. (Oh, Obama withdrew all sub launched nukes. The Japanese learned of this crazy move and protested. Allegedly Obama countermanded his order.)

The last President Bush said he wanted to leave Iraq ‘strong, free and friendly’.

Laudable.

I am not being cold or malicious but just curiously, WHY with all the US money, effort, sacrifice and material generosity are these people UNABLE to secure their own future?

Where were they when the US was shown the door? Did we hear a peep out of them? Was there any loyalty shown to us for our help or any appreciation for our sacrifices? Have any of these people EVER taken our part in our diplomatic efforts elsewhere in the ME?

No. Too many “assets” here now. We helped them. That doesn’t mean that we have to take care of them forever and become them.
