Impeachment off, GOP fears it will rally Obama Democrats
Washington Examiner ^ | June 6, 2014 | Paul Bedard

Despite anger in many quarters of the nation over the president's prisoner swap, Republicans are backing off impeachment threats because they fear it would rally President Obama's Democratic base and kill the GOP's chances to win the Senate, according to congressional insiders and sources.

“150 days out from a general election is not a realistic time to begin such a solemn and Constitutionally important process,” said one advisor to House GOP leaders.

Re: “That’s probably why the Democrats are experts at turning out their voters.”

Actually, that’s not correct.

White Conservatives have the highest voter turn out in every election - even in 2012, when we allegedly “stayed home.”

But nationally, the Democrats have a 5% advantage with all eligible voters.

When Democrats figure out how to turn out their voter base in off year elections, the Republican Party will become extinct.

Well, not quite.

We can probably hold the House until 2022.

But then, Congressional redistricting will favor the Democrats, and they will capture the House, too.

All I am saying is, American jobs have been far over-sent overseas, and it is high time to bring them right back here.

America is about to lose the lead in world trade.

(basically, because we buy everything from China.)

FR is a great website and is profoundly patriotic. It is wonderful and I support this place deeply.

But even here, we don’t yet seem to get it yet.

China has nearly five times America’s population.

America needs to make stuff right here in America. We do not need to import everything. That will only lead to an ever-poorer America. And an ever-richer China and world.

America needs to EXPORT STUFF.

That is what we have lost sight of. Exporting is how a country moves forward. We don’t export anymore.

We import. So we build up OTHER COUNTRIES. We need to build up America.

Someone needs to stand up for American factories. Nobody has done that now, for a full generation.

Nobody.

/rant off

Then just cancel all of the hearings and faux investigations.

Remember the old stupid saying “If you’re getting raped lay back and enjoy it?” Fits todays repub congress.

No. Republicans are so intimidated they’ve become useless. Don’t do anything or you’ll make them mad is basically the approach while the Democrats can say and do what they want knowing the push back won’t come. In that case we’ve lost. It’s all over. If there ever is another Republican president and congressional majority, they will run around giving more away and fixing Obamacare, etc.

Why vote? Just surrender. If this mfing Sob can get away with emptying Gitmo of its worst all is lost.

Also the -—exact-— rationale offered by the supporters of avoiding Impeachment on this thread. Is it any wonder the GOP are closet cases? They know their little sycophants will fly across the net to shout down any hint of opposition to their cowardice.

You build the case WITH impeachment. The House sits as a Grand Jury. There is no burden of proof, but every charge can be named and evidence presented. You do not win a case before you make a case.

I'm talking about building the case with the public.

They don't even know the difference between impeachment and conviction.

Obama would certainly lose in a regular courtroom. He'll be a martyr, though, if he's impeached right now.

The best approach, IMO, is to first hold hearings about government corruption in general. Tie everything together -- voter manipulation by executive orders, government abuse against political opponents, outright lies concerning Benghazi to influence the 2012 election. Roll all the scandals into one and create in the mind of the public the correct impression that the entire administration from top to bottom is corrupt.

Once the public sees Obama as a Nixon, then impeach. We aren't there yet. The public generally still doesn't know enough about all the rotten things this administration has done -- only those of us paying attention do know.

similarly, they need to come clean on the true reasons for bjclinton’s impeachment (which came out in the Cox report).

The Clinton impeachment is the perfect example of what can go wrong for Republicans.

To this day most people think he was impeached because he got a BJ.

That they believe that is a failure by Republicans to get the message across to the public. We can't make that mistake again.

That is why I say it’s better to vote for 80% allies (RINOs who survive primaries—and we should definitely be trying to defeat them in those primaries) than stand on principle by not voting for them in the general elections.

I mostly agree.

We should reform the primary process, though. Republicans shouldn't be bashing each other so much during the primaries.

A better system like approval voting or range voting would reduce the amount of conflict.

There is precedence at stake here. This is not just about Obama.///

Excellent p t!

Force the senate dims to stand with the usurper. At least you will be sending the right signal. What damage will he do in the mean time?

He can get away with unconstitutional actions and he knows it, for the same reasons that are being expressed on this forum.

The impeachment process died last time out with SlicKKK and we don’t have time for it anyhow UNLESS dems themselves were to impeach the SOB. We need something faster than that, either remove Bork Obunga on something like a section 8 (gone nuts) or declare the 2012 election null and void due to fraud or declare the guy ineligible to hold the office and the whole Bork presidency illegal and put EVERYBODY responsible for it behind bars. A good start point would be a sense of the House resolution that the guy is not qualified to hold the office and THAT could be done without any help from the Senate at all.

I respectfully disagree. Impeachment is about high crimes and misdemeanors. Either he is guilty or he is not.

JMHO

Reagan 1975: "In another recent survey, of 35,000 college and university students polled, three-fourths blame American business and industry for all of our economic and social ills. The same three-fourths think the answer is more (and virtually complete) regimentation and government control of all phases of business—including the imposition of wage and price controls. Yet, 80 percent in the same poll want less government interference in their own lives!" [in their sex, drugs, rock and roll lives?]

It's nationwide today and it's worse -- IMO at least it has become the Establishment's America. The fault is ours. Abe will explain from "the other side."

If you could first know where you are and whither you are tending, you could better judge what to do and how to do it. You initiated a policy to tolerate the Marxist-Alinsky radicals and let them rant; not only has it not ceased but was constantly augmented by decades of infiltration and indoctrination. You now have two Americas. In my opinion, it will not cease until a crisis shall have been reached and passed. A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half statist and half free; I do not expect the house to fall; but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing, or all the other.

The question today is either the opponents of statism will arrest the further spread of it and place it on course of ultimate extinction, or its advocates will push it forward till it shall become permanent.

Have you no tendency to the latter condition?
