Despite anger in many quarters of the nation over the president's prisoner swap, Republicans are backing off impeachment threats because they fear it would rally President Obama's Democratic base and kill the GOP's chances to win the Senate, according to congressional insiders and sources.
150 days out from a general election is not a realistic time to begin such a solemn and Constitutionally important process, said one advisor to House GOP leaders.

Under the “just war” doctrine, we would not start a war to impeach the evil usurper in our White House. Obama is the most dangerous threat to freedom and to the Constitution that we have faced in our country’s history, but we should not attempt to remove him from office when that attempt is 100% certain to fail.

Correct. THE GOP had way more than 1\3rd of the Senate back in 1974 when Barry Goldwater told Nixon that his time was up. Of course, there is no Democrat in today`s Senate with the stature of Goldwater, much less the integrity. And Sick Nixon, for all his faults, was at least capable of shame. BO is not.

My $0.02 is politics should not enter into impeachment (I realize that may seem impossible to some). Either Obama has committed high crimes or he hasn’t. It is a legal black and white issue. If he has ... then the Constitution requires these people in the House to do their duty ... elections be damned. Removal by the Senate is a separate matter from impeachment. One should not avoid impeachment because they think the Senate will not remove. That nonsense is for cowards.
While FReepers may believe he has committed high crimes we need hearings and people with legal backgrounds to decide this fairly, without political calculations and do what is right.
There is precedence at stake here. This is not just about Obama.

Pal, I got news for you. The “YELLOW media” will ALWAYS be in the pocket of the left. If you are waiting for that to change before making a move to fight, you will wait forever.

Impeachment is possible only when the general public are already behind it. Republicans need to build their case. You build the case WITH impeachment. The House sits as a Grand Jury. There is no burden of proof, but every charge can be named and evidence presented. You do not win a case before you make a case.

Now if you want to impeach and remove someone the white guy in the picture is the one I would pick.

In my view, the impeachment process should begin the Wednesday following November’s Tuesday election. Obama is very deserving of impeachment.

He is, but impeachment is not priority one. It won’t change a thing about his policies. Beating Dems and reversing his policies is what will maybe, perhaps, save the country.
Impeachhing him accomplishes nothing
.as much as I’d like to see it.
