It turns out that leftists can’t repeal the law of supply and demand. In the Seattle suburb of Seatac, adjacent to the airport and full of parking lots, hotels, and restaurants with many low wage employees, the minimum wage was hiked to $15 an hour, and the results of this social experiment are coming in.
United Liberty reports:
A February report from the Seattle Times revealed:
At the Clarion Hotel off International Boulevard, a sit-down restaurant has been shuttered, though it might soon be replaced by a less-labor-intensive cafe…
Other businesses have adjusted in ways that run the gamut from putting more work in the hands of managers, to instituting a small “living-wage surcharge” for a daily parking space near the airport.
That’s not all. According to Assunta Ng, publisher of the
Northwest Asian Weekly, some employees are
feeling the pinch as employers cut benefits. She recalls a conversation she had with two hotel employees who have been affected by the wage hike:

“Soon half of the minimum wage people will be seeking public assistance to cover things like healthcare, food etc. The other half will be collecting unemployment”.....
Nothing “soon” about it as it is already happening and has been for some time.

SeaTac was only the initial “experiment” designed to test the waters. Won’t be long and the entire ocean will be contaminated with their stupid idea of a $15.00/hour min wage.

This is all about transitioning people to government dependency.
It’s what liberals do best.

re: $9.32 to $15 an hour.
That's a 61% increase!! Doesn't anyone study Economics anymore?
A 10% raise would be to $10.25. That might make some sense, and the results would apply to the real world. I don't understand how anyone with even an ounce of brains would raise the minimum wage more than 10% a year.

NOTE: Singapore and Switzerland HAVE ZERO MINIMUM WAGE.
I don’t see their workers crying that they are underpaid at all.
In fact, both countries have unemployment of less than 3%.

Nothing a $25 dollar minimum wage won't fix by 100%. None of them will have a job.

"Ill say it again, dont dare think that they will admit to failure and repeal the law." This is the basic problem with government American style. No bad idea ever gets dropped, it just gets bigger and takes more money every year.
In business, in sports, in personal goals and of course, in war; if a plan doesn't work, it has to end or all may be lost. Not so with government.

You miss the economics of the minimum wage. ANY increase in the minimum wage costs jobs and benefits to the workers. The higher the increase, the more people lose their jobs and benefits.

P.S. Also, a higher minimum wage means a bigger incentive to hire illegals and pay them a lower wage under the table.

Singapore and Switzerland aren't fare comparisons when discussing minimum wage. The US wouldn't need one either if citizens weren't competing with invaders, legal and illegal for jobs. Stop that, and US wages would rise. Next step....get rid of the handout mentality. If both things happened supply and demand of labor would take care of fair wages.
Would some people die in the streets rather than work? I suspect so.

But the minimum wage has done it’s job. All of the Seatac union employes who’s wages are tied to the minimum wage have received a huge boost.

A higher minimum wage means a bigger incentive to hire illegals (I prefer "invaders") and pay them a lower wage under the tableNot if EVerify were the law of the land. Add to that fining and giving jail time to anyone who has knowledge of that practice, and the problem will disappear.

RE: Singapore and Switzerland aren’t fare comparisons when discussing minimum wage. The US wouldn’t need one either if citizens weren’t competing with invaders
A significant number of those working in Singapore AND Switzerland ARE in fact FOREIGNERS.
The difference — immigration is WELL REGULATED and CONTROLLED.
Want to work in Singapore as a fast food worker or maid or construction worker from Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia or the Philippines?
Go and apply, and if you have the skill set, they’ll let you work. BUT NO PATH TO CITIZENSHIP UNLESS YOU HAVE THE SPECIAL SKILL THE COUNTRY NEEDS.
Go and work, make money, return when your contract is up. Re-apply to come back when there’s a need.
We used to have such a system until it got screwed up.
It was called the Bracero program.

Simple! Just mandate that it is illegal to go out of business!

You know if the liberals think 15/hour is good for the economy.
Then why not 20/hour or 50/hour or even 1000/hour.
