May 22, 2014 (The Cardinal Newman Society) - Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia reportedly said of his alma mater Georgetown University that it is not Catholic anymore.
In an interview with The Remnants Vincent Chiarello, Scalia spoke extensively about his faith and about his memories of the Jesuit University. He said that when he attended, they rolled you out of bed to attend Mass. Not anymore.

Though in some respects this is a religious issue, I feel this should be something for general discussion since Georgetown is considered such a quality institution for education.
Maybe there should be concern that graduates coming out of Georgetown [these days] may be immoral.
Is there any such thing as a catholic university anymore? I would guess that there are as many non-catholics as there are catholics in these schools.
And sadly neither is Notre Dame, if people want to go to a real Catholic college I highly recommend Steubenville, wish I would have gone there.
Let’s be discreet. The American Jesuit order is simply not what it once was.The Jesuits are dominated by some very odd men.
Most so called Catholic colleges and universities are not Catholic and do not provide a Catholic education. The self-indulgence and political correctness of academia is in opposition to genuine Catholic values.
Most so called Catholic politicians are not genuine Catholics.
Georgetown went moslem after taking $20M here and $30M there from Saudis (eg. al-Waleed) to build Wahhabi ‘centers for understanding’ in the middle of campus.

This administration is doing its best to end all religious institutions.
The problem isn't non-Catholic students but institutional spitting on Catholic teachings. All the big-name "Catholic" colleges do that now - but there are less well publicized schools that are genuinely Catholic (a few have already been mentioned on this thread).
Personally, I see a significant difference on this between Notre Dame, where despite its many well-known faults there is a substantial effort to be Catholic school on the part of many students, alumni and faculty, and the Jesuit universities like Boston College and Georgetown which, it seems to me at least, are much further along towards being completely non-Catholic in any meaningful sense. I realize that others may disagree. Notre Dame has a much higher percentage of self-identified Catholic students (approx. 85%) than Boston College (70%) or Georgetown (51%). Granted, comparison with these and other Jesuit institutions is damning with faint praise. All that said, I think Christendom College and Thomas Aquinas and Steubenville and the others identified above are all great and I don’t doubt that they are doing a much better job of providing a Catholic education.
wow, back in his day, they rolled you out of your bed to go to Mass. Can you imagine such a requirement nowadays???
My dad attended Georgetown in the late ‘40s , early ‘50s. They were required to wear a coat and tie to the dining hall. Again, something completely unbelievable to today’s college kids, that a college could require a dress code.
So, is Scalia calling on Cardinal Wuerl to do something about it? If that’s the case, he should have done so long ago.
I remember when the Jesuits misbehaved at Arizona State University in the 1960s, supporting the anti-war movement and giving aid and comfort to violent student radicals. The bishop at the time arranged the turning over of their ministry to the Dominican Order, and that was the end of the trouble and strife.
Nobody went into too much detail about how he pulled this off. However, imagine the surprise if the Cardinal suggested that the Jesuits needed to clean house at Georgetown.
Thank you. You made my point better than I could have.
In other words, the Georgetown Alumni are griping about how un-Catholic and how Georgetown is in violation of Canon Law (Church Law of the Catholic Church), and the Vatican is listening to these complaints and consider that they have merit...
Also, many traditional Catholics are high regards to Ave Maria college in Florida...
Worth looking into.
Sorry friend, I don't ND advocates a lot of contradictory teachings that do not represent the Catholic faith such as homosexual groups on campus and a liberal philosophy that is ingrained in much of the faculty, students and congregation on campus. Living in the Chicago area I know some great Catholics who attended school there, but unfortunately ND has really embraced a watered down Catholic dogma, it's a shame too because they used to be such a great institution for Catholicism.
