ALBANY A year after the state enacted a tough new gun control law, Remington Arms said Friday it is moving two production lines from upstate to Alabama.
Remington, which dates to 1816, said it will no longer produce its Bushmaster rifle and R1 pistol lines at its Ilion plant, which employs more than 1,000 workers. Its unclear how many jobs will be lost in the move.
But state Sen. James Seward (RMilford) said passage of Gov. Cuomos SAFE Act last year didnt help.
The fact that the lines being moved out are for products now more strictly regulated in New York due to the overreaching SAFE Act sends a strong, obvious message, Seward said.
A Cuomo spokesman had no immediate comment.
Remingtons announcement in February that it was building a factory in Huntsville, Ala., raised fears in New York that the company would eventually leave.
I suspect that those two product lines are not only moving due to the SAFE act, but also because they have analyzed which products are going to be in demand once the Fudds and the aging boomers stop purchasing traditional sporting firearms.
ROC has figured out what will continue to sell and they are repositioning accordingly.

Looks like the south could be better positioned, this time, for the new civil war...the war which will pit the hard working, God fearing, moral freedom loving, people against the authoritarian totalitarian atheistic Marxists.
I dream about what you are saying. All we need is the right leadership to lead the way.
Andy is just another DAGO in an expensive suit.
I never thought it possible to be dumber than his father, yet the son demonstrates this is not only possible, but has a multiplier effect.
The entire downstate cabal thinks all of upstate and western NY is a park like the Adirondacks is.
He sounds so dumb that he would vote for Fidel if Obama tells him too.
Randy, the south will kindly take Remington's blood money. When the nextcivil war comes - the gun manufacturers will help the free south, while the north will be enslaved.
TRUE re the Adirondacks! :)
Lots of Ouderkirks in the Albany NY area, but you probably already knew that.
Solution for Upstate NY: De-annex NYC. Fumigate Albany
(I’d say “secede”, but then folks might accuse y’all of being a bunch of “racist rednecks”.)
Sadly, the burgers those $15 an hour flippers will be flipping will eventually cost $10.
“Even in upstate NY there are far too many who still vote Dem”
Yes, and that can be said about anywhere in the U.S.
Ilion’s district sent a Democrat to the US House. They should have thought of this before pulling the big D lever.
They are also moving a line from North Carolina.

Actually, I think they should move their CT operation to central Virginia.
“Deserve’s got nothing to do with it.”
1) they don’t care if their policies harm the economy as long as they continue to amass power over the people that remain.
2) jacking taxes on those that remain is part of that amassing of power, so that’s exactly what they’ll do.
Randy most likely does not pay taxes.
I suspect he is one of the 49%.
This story came out months ago about them moving to Huntsville, AL area. Is this more production coming or is it the same one mentioned several months ago?
I have land here and am living on it. Come on back dude. Oh, and to answer your question, yes, life is good here. Come on back.
Went to schools at The Loveliest Village on The Plains. Have a son going there next year. Have a few more years to spend in Georgia until I am living on Lake Martin!
Sounds like you’ll be near Pell City. I am up near Jacksonville State University. Live out in the country near JSU. Wonderful life out here in free country.
“Ilions district sent a Democrat to the US House. They should have thought of this before pulling the big D lever.”
I live in the next village over from Ilion, our Congressman (Hanna) is Rep. He has been the Congressman since 2011. Before that the seat was held by a democrat.
