The Harvard Extension School Cultural Studies Club has dropped its sponsorship of a re-enactment of a Satanic black mass ritual, which was scheduled to occur Monday evening at Cambridge Queens Head Pub. A spokesperson for the Satanic Temple, which was facilitating the black mass, said that the organization no longer plans to hold a black mass this evening.
The Harvard Extension School Cultural Studies Club originally said that it planned to relocate its reenactment of a Satanic black mass ritual, scheduled for Monday night, to an off-campus site, citing in an email that misinterpretations about the nature of the event were harming perceptions about Harvard and adversely impacting the student community.
The club wrote in its email around 5 p.m. that they planned for the event to be held at The Middle East nightclub in Central Square at 9 p.m. But Clay S. Fernald, the general manager of The Middle East, said Monday evening that the nightclub will not host the event, and that negotiations with the Harvard Extension Cultural Studies Club had fallen through.
Fernald declined to comment on why negotiations had ended.
Around 7 p.m., the Cultural Studies Club sent an email saying that they had been unable to find another location and would no longer sponsor the black mass.
The club emphasized in the 5 p.m. email that Harvard had not asked them to move the event from its previous location, the Cambridge Queens Head Pub in the basement of Memorial Hall, and commended the University for affirming its members rights to free speech and assembly.
Harvard always demonstrated that it understood its responsibility to defend protected student speech. That was always made clear to us, the club wrote in a second email.
In response to the events relocation, Terrence Donilon, secretary of communications for the Archdiocese of Boston, said that the Catholic Church still condemns any re-enactment of the Satanic ritual, regardless of setting.
Whether they have it at Harvard or at some other location, this is repugnant. No other community would stand u p for this, he said. We recognize that were a country that allows free speech, but were also a country that shares in the common good. Theres nothing good that comes out of desecrating the central element of the Catholic Church, which is the Eucharist.
Catholic ping!

This Protestant stands and cheers for you all.
As does this one.
#1 Prayer works!
As I’ve said on other threads, I grew up as a High-Church Episcopalian, but converted to Catholicism while I was an undergraduate at Harvard. Fr. Porras of Opus Dei was the Chaplain of the Harvard Catholic Club at that time, and there were a lot of faithful Catholics in the Club.
I went to Mass at St. Paul’s Church in Cambridge pretty often. It is a beautiful church, and at that time was a wonderful place to attend Mass. I don’t know how things are now. But I’m certainly encouraged by what I read about the response of Harvard and Boston Catholics to this challenge.
FYI
As does this agnostic lightning dodger.
Well done, from the Christian Marines.
Semper Fi!
LOL
Check your link again. It just moved off campus. Now the headline reads:
Even as Harvard Group Drops Sponsorship, Black Mass Underway at Hong Kong [restaurant]
Although the Harvard Extension School Cultural Studies Club dropped its sponsorship of a re-enactment of a Satanic black mass ritual earlier in the night, members of Satanic Temple gathered for what appeared to be a black mass on the second floor of the Hong Kong restaurant and lounge shortly after 10 p.m. Monday.
The Hong Kong is located on Massachusetts Avenue, directly across the street from Harvard Yard.
Yeah!!!!
Prayers continue for all those involved. Please open yourselves to Christ’s love.
Thanks for the updated information. I doubt they will find an altar in a chinese restaurant.
This is veering off into Spinal Tap territory now.
good
Thanks Be To God. This had become quite serious..I’m glad the local Christian Community spoke loudly and clearly against this blasphamy.
It really doesn’t matter where it’s held or not held now. Harvard was willing to allow on campus an event that attacked a class of students on their campus.
Nor does their excuse about free speech hold water. That is precisely the excuse one would expect to hear out of anyone who wanted to attack a class of people. If the Nazis wanted to hold an anti-Jewish rally at Harvard, one would expect them to use “free speech” as the issue.
So what is Harvard’s crime?
Honesty. Simple honesty.
Had Harvard said, “A hateful group has petitioned us for an opportunity to degrade all of our Catholic students at an on-campus event at 8 pm on 12 May at Queen’s Head Pub. Their existence as a group is premised on their hatred of a class of human beings. We do not recommend this program to anyone, yet, provided our security concerns are addressed, it will go forward because of our open forum policy on Harvard.”
This “re-enactment of a Satanic Mass” garbage was almost an advertisement. It was totally devoid of explanation that Satanism’s very existence is owed to a desire to degrade that class of students that adhere’s to Christianity.
Interesting. The Cultural Studies Club had members and a spokesman... But one had any names. Why. Don’t they publish the names of these people? Cowards!
