The IRS has finally agreed to hand over all of ex-IRS official Lois Lerners emails to the House Committee on Ways and Means, The Daily Caller has learned.
New IRS commissioner John Koskninen previously said that it could take years to provide all of Lerners emails to congressional investigators. But Ways and Means referral of criminal charges against Lerner to the Department of Justice, coupled with the House of Representatives holding Lerner in contempt of Congress Wednesday, has changed the tenor of the investigation into the IRS conservative targeting scandal.
While it is good that we are finally getting these emails, it should never have taken this long. The agency is finally doing what is right and hopefully this is the last of the delays, House Ways and Means chairman Rep. Dave Camp said in a statement.
It is almost a year to the day since Lois Lerner apologized for the IRSs targeting of conservative groups, and we need to get to the bottom of this, Camp said. These documents are critical to an investigation that is holding the IRS accountable and ensuring the constitutional rights of these groups are never trampled on again. The Committee will thoroughly review the Lerner documents and follow them wherever they may lead.
As Washington-based director of exempt organizations for the IRS, Lerner oversaw the improper targeting of conservative groups between 2010 and 2012. Lerner has thus far refused to answer congressional investigators questions about her conduct.
The Daily Caller has reported on emails showing Lerner coordinating with White House officials, the Department of Justice, the Federal Election Commission, and the Treasury Department.
I’ll believe it when it happens.
And I fully expect the IRS to “overlook” some critical emails.
I guess it took them awhile to sanitize everything.
I expect the dems, Lerner, Obama, Holder will try to run the clock out on this and other scandals.
Is this going to include her personal email accounts?
The IRS has already destroyed the really incriminating emails. The rest will be heavily redacted.
Bingo.
No. When you work for any government agency....you get a personalized gov’t account, which connects to your division account, and if on any projects....a project-related account. The personal stuff (like Yahoo)...don’t fall into this category.
I will say this....in an average year (having been in gov’t employment)...there’s probably about 6,000 emails as a minimum coming into or out of your account. A quarter are about division parties, security threats, flowers for some employee who passed on, etc. And another quarter will be about meetings, their times, cancellations, or results of the meeting.....which tend to be of zero value.
If she’s assigned a Blackberry....then you could figure she’s looking and responding to emails....twenty-four hours a day....seven days a week.....and it’s bound to get up around 10,000 emails for an entire year.
And I would add this....I can remember in 1992....when the Air Force was first stepping into emails...and I might have gotten a max of seven emails a month. Imagine going back 1989, with zero emails, and all correspondence was done by typewriter, and you spent three hours developing a one-page response, with proper verbs, nouns, and cited all correspondence.
It’s going to take them years!!??
Go to the folder, hit select all, and then press delete. I MEAN SEND! PRESS SEND!! Oops - too late.
Anybody that believes they will turn over ALL of her e-mails, I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale real cheap. . .
Harder than you might think. They really don’t know what the committee already has and has been sitting on just waiting for the right moment to pounce.
It’s the same thing with Gowdy and Benghazi. The smoking gun has them all freaked, but Gowdy’s statement that he already has more evidence than he is showing has to have them pissing their pants because they dare not withhold anything that he “might” already have. That would definitely blow things apart.
And what if Gowdy has a witness? Someone he is keeping in the background now, but who is willing to come forward at the proper time to lay things bare. This is the kind of battle of nerves that a good prosecutor loves.
Doubt it, more delay tactics..
Someone has just thrown Lerner under the bus
Likely many of the emails are already leaked and the official presentation is for making them admissible in a court of law.
If any smoking gun or condemning emails are missing, then this will go another round or two or three.
I suspect the release of a selected subset of emails is an attempt to get Lerner off the hot seat and kept out of jail; so she won’t ‘sing’.
“The IRS has already destroyed the really incriminating emails. The rest will be heavily redacted.”
Don’t bet on it. They may have destroyed the ones in her account, but can they still reach the ones in the accounts of other people on those E-Mails, or the backups from those accounts, or the re-forwarding of some of them? I can promise you there is never any assurance of that, and I would not want to be the person trying to explain what happened to those particular messages.
As dumb as some people are, the ones in IT understand this and likely will not want to risk a decade or two at Juliet just to try to protect her.
Remember what Snowden said : When you have access to a persons e-mails, phone call logs, text messages, onstar records, phone GPS data, social media, then probable cause starts dropping out of the sky.
I wager Snowden, or another Whistleblower, has reached in and secured the required proof. A&Z, Gowdy, and the rest are documenting the enablers
They will provide paper copies in shredder bags...
