Benghazi Made Simple
The White Houses political and ideological instincts overpowered everything else.
By Jonah Goldberg NRO 5/3/2014
On Wednesday, Jay Carney explained as if he was talking to a room full of children that the Benghazi e-mail the White House refused to release until the White House was forced to release its Benghazi e-mails wasnt in fact about Benghazi, even though the e-mail talks about Benghazi. This is Monty Pythonesque of Dead Parrot proportions. Thats not a Benghazi e-mail, its just an e-mail about Benghazi, in a folder marked Benghazi e-mails, idiot.
As I said on Fox yesterday, Jay Carney is a very strange creature for Washington. Hes an extremely confident liar weve got a lot of those! but hes not very convincing. Usually, confidence = convincing. As George Costanza (and in his own way Bill Clinton) liked to say, its not a lie if you believe it when you tell it. But with Carney, he lies in a way that makes it seem not so much like he believes it but that youre an idiot for not believing it. Theres a kind of the-jokes-on-you feel to the way he talks that reminds me of that (X-rated and not safe for work) Onion article, Why Do These Homosexuals Keep [Fellating Me]?
Carney actually seems shocked and, well, disappointed to the point of contemptuousness, when reporters wont believe him. Its like no one told him he doesnt have Jedi mind tricks at his disposal.
Carney: These are not the droids youre looking for, idiots.
Ed Henry, Fox News: But Jay, these look exactly like the droids weve been looking for. In fact, the serial numbers match.
Carney: Ed, I understand your network is deeply invested in finding a story here. But the simple fact is that these are in no way the droids youre looking for. Move along.
Henry: One last follow-up, Jay. The golden droid on the right just said, Excuse me sirs, but we are in fact exactly the droids youve been looking for. Thank goodness you found us.
Carney: No, no they didnt. And besides I used to be a journalist as you know and its common knowledge among real journalists [Carney winks to the non-Fox reporters in the room] that one should never believe what droids tell them.
Jonathan Karl, ABC: Jay, related question: Here is a photo of you from last month holding up a picture of these exact droids with the quote in the caption reading, Carney vows the White House will not rest until these droids are found. Also, ABC News has obtained footage of you from this morning, hugging the two droids right there, with you saying Thank Obama we found you! Can you explain that?
[Carney rolls his eyes and then desperately tries to telekinetically choke everyone in the room.]
Henry: Uh, Jay are you okay? Why are you squinting? Whats up with that hand gesture . . .
BENGHAZI MADE SIMPLE
There is an enormous amount of theorizing about what the real story behind Benghazi really is. To me its always been obvious. The White House was caught off guard for reasons stemming both from ideology and incompetence on September 11, 2012. As they have after virtually every other (jihadist) terrorist attack on Americans, they acted as if it had absolutely nothing to do with them. As with the Times Square bomber, the Fort Hood shooter, and other Islamist assaults, theres always some other reason for the bloodshed, some attempt to claim, at least for a while, that this was an isolated incident with no broader implications for the War on Terror or Obamas foreign policy. Admittedly, even this White House understood that spinning the Benghazi attack as an isolated incident wasnt going to work (such intense spinning could risk irreparable scrotal torsion). So they went with the story about the video.

Dumb question: The attack happened at an “annex”. Was there a US embassy in Libya at the time, and were there Marines stationed there?
If so, how long would it have taken them to prepare for combat and travel to the annex?
I’d like to see that linked to the graphic of the Muslim Brotherhood ties to the White House.
One big ugly web of anti-American intrigue.
Link?
I’ll make it real simple for ya, Jonah, obama cares nothing about anyone but himself, how’s that for simple
If so, how long would it have taken them to prepare for combat and travel to the annex?
Clarifying terms. The initial attack took place at a location serving as a Consulate. The "annex" you refer to was the "CIA Annex" several blocks away where the CIA was engaged in conducting activities we have not yet been made aware of.
US Marines protect Embassies, but not Consulates. The U.S. Embassy in Libya is at Tripoli, about 400 miles away from Benghazi. The Security Staff at the Tripoli Embassy was retained in place by the Acting Head of Mission (in the Ambassador's absence) due to fears that they might also be attacked.
Jonah, this article is poorly written. Your premise is solid, but the article does not make the case in an authoritative way. It conveys a cartoon like aura. Sorry Jonah, just my thought.
Okay.
There is an embassy/consulate in Tripoli. Marines were on the ground at that location. It is only 400 air miles from Tripoli to Benghazzi.
Perfect! Like, I’m not cool, or hip, or in-the-know if I don’t know
“This is Monty Pythonesque of Dead Parrot proportions.”
Stopped reading right there.
I don’t care.
(Psst! here’s a secret, he doesn’t care for anybody but himself - but he doesn’t even care about himself - he hates himself)
How’s that for crazy?
Narcissism.
It IS crazy.
Nixon lied, and covered up about a burglary he ordered to an office staffed by Democrats: Nixon resigned, rather that choosing to submit to an Impeachment Trial. Nobody died.
Bill Clinton lied and was Impeached. Vince Foster and Ron Armstrong died.
B. Hussein lied, was AWOL, covered up and is proud of it. Four of his employees were brutally murdered, while Obama slept like a baby.
The major U.S. naval air station of the Mediterranean, Sigonella, in Sicily, is very close by. Anyone who tries to claim help was far away is either grossly ignorant or hopes the listeners and readers are. All that command needed was the order “Yes, go.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_Air_Station_Sigonella
Nixon did not order or request the break in. John Dean probably did. But of course, after the fact, Nixon covered it up. And I don’t think he covered it up so much for the office break in, but that it might uncover “...the whole Cuban thing...”. It was that quote (or to that effect) that preceded the gap in the tapes. I think it had to do with keeping secret certain parts of our [Kennedy’s] involvement in the Bay of Pigs.
(BTW - the “Pentagon Papers” that Nixon tried to keep from getting released was from Johnson’s previous administration. But instead of using Johnson’s failures to his advantage politically, Nixon chose our National Security as a priority.)
Sorry for the sidetrack. But the liberals have used Nixon, and any hint of a Nixon type cover-up, dirty tricks, etc. to go after conservatives 40+ years later. We need to do the same to them, as you point out.
1)Why was there no response to Amb. Steven's request for more security?
2)Why did a CIA agent risk his career and ultimately his life to go from Tripoli to Benghazi to fight off the terrorists, while our CIC and Secretary of State sent no one?
3) What is NOT POLITICAL about:
a) NOT granting a request for better security at an American Consulate
b) NOT sending military assets to rescue personnel at the Consulate during an attack
c) NOT admitting an American Ambassador and three other brave men were killed during a TERRORIST attack on 9/11
d) ALL because doing so MIGHT have undermined a POLITCAL PARTY'S narrative about the effectiveness of their policies RIGHT AFTER their Convention and RIGHT BEFORE an election!
” - - - We need to do the same to them, as you point out. - - - “
BUMP X 10!
You want simple?

Reportedly, a 50-man Spec Forces team had been flown in from Croatia. They were in their choppers, ready to go, rotors turning.
An F-18 squadron was standing by, ready to give them cover when they arrived.
Nobody said "Go".
