They are often depicted as dim-witted evolutionary losers, but Neanderthals were not driven to extinction by their lack of brains, a new study suggests.
Instead, it is more likely that they disappeared 40,000 years ago because of interbreeding and assimilation with our early modern human ancestors, scientists believe.
An analysis of archaeological evidence dating back 200,000 years strips away some of the myths surrounding Neanderthals and reveals they were more advanced and sophisticated than has widely been thought. Why did Neanderthals go extinct? It's often thought their lack of intelligent ultimately led to their demise, but new research suggests it may instead have been due to interbreeding and assimilation with our early modern human ancestors

The differences between the two human sub-species are not enough on their own to account for the demise of the Neanderthals, say the two US and Dutch researchers.
Dr Paola Villa, from the University of Colorado Museum, and Professor Wil Roebroeks, from Leiden University, wrote in the online journal Public Library of Science ONE: 'Genetic studies now suggest that the debate on the demise of the Neanderthals needs to be reframed in terms of some degree of interbreeding.
'In that sense, Neanderthals did not go extinct, even though their distinctive morphology did disappear.

You should have read what I said completely. What he said was that the size of the head in respect to the size of the rest of the body.
I think all kind of experts now disagree with the guy who wrote the Britannica article even tho it has been proven over and over. The reason is political correctness. Blacks have smaller brains and typically score from 10-15 points lower on IQ tests. It is one of those odd areas in which all the facts say one thing and all the experts, just the opposite.
I will say back in the old days, I had a fairly well known Biology professor, Dr. Fanny Fern Davis, who began teaching after she retired. She also told the class that brain size was correlated to intelligence.
I clicked on this story just to read the comments. Wasn’t disappointed!!!
Perhaps they became journalists.
Yeah, but that’s a guy. Show me what the women looked like.
Not much better. You gonna do it with something like that??
Did Homo Sapiens brew beer back then?
In he Neanderthal’s case brain size does not correlate with intelligence. The Neanderthal’s brain was dominated by the areas of the brain associated with motion and vision and amounted to the neurological equivalent of a military night vision system. The Neanderthal spent thousands of years on this Earth without ever coming up with anything comparable to the fancy tools, weapons, and artwork of Cro Magnon man.
Beer wouldn’t help...
Now that was a good one!
Men do have larger brains than women in respect to the whole body...it does not mean men are smarter.
I can certainly see why many think that the larger the brain the smarter the person. It seems logical...but it’s not true.
There are racial differences in intellect, but that means little on an individual basis. There are many blacks with genius level IQ’s, there are some brilliant black members of FR. I’d hate to have to match wits with the likes of Thomas Sowell :-) (I wish he was the first black president!)

Notice the size of the eyes...
I disagree but am not going to argue.
I could be wrong, I often am :-)
They are still around. How else can you explain Democrats?
I do want to add something.
I have known Black people who were so good that it embarrasses me to have to criticize their race.
That there are some Blacks who are geniuses is what would be expected, just the percentage is not as high.
I will admit that my favorite radio host is Walter Williams. I literally prefer listening to him than anyone else. I don’t get to listen to him much since he is usually just a guest host and yes he is a genius.
That question is indeed politically incorrect....a guy could get tarred and feathered for making a statement like that nowadays.
