New York Knicks executive Larry Johnson has a different take on the racial fire thats recently ignited over Clippers owner Donald Sterling, looking at the broader picture to make his main point: Its high time blacks started their own league, he said.
In a tweet, the former star player wrote: Black people your Focusing on the wrong thing. We should be focusing on having our own, Own team own League! To For Self!!
Its not the first time that Mr. Johnson drew critical attention to the fact that the NBA is headed primarily by white executives and played mostly by black athletes, the New York Post reported. In 1999, he said during the NBA Finals between the Knicks and Spurs that, Weve got a lot of rebellious slaves on this [Knicks] team.
He followed that up with an explanation of his use of the word slaves: We dont go with the mainstream, he said, the New York Post reported.
Mr. Johnson was hired two years ago to help out with Knicks business operations.
He sent his tweet out about the same time the NBA announced it was kicking off an investigation into Mr. Sterling, who allegedly complained to his girlfriend about posting photos of him with black people on her Instagram account.
Mr. Sterlings alleged statements

Who would want to attend such an event, with members not decided by talent, but by race?
And a white basketball league too!
But THAT would be racist.
why isn’t excluding white people because they’re white racist?
Lol...great business model. Via racism, reduce your audience by 92%. That will go over well. Have at it fellas...just think: with this mindset pretty soon you could get your own water fountains! “NO WHITE PEOPLE!”
Think Detroit....
Lets see...addressing racism by being a racist...
More liberal logic....
Exactly, most people I know already refer to it as thugball, so I suppose they can just throw more crap on tv that I will ignore.
But we can throw any semblance of selectivity and/or inclusiveness out the window now thanks to “mr.” Johnson.
I guess this is one I will happily let them have both ways...
Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.
The more things change, the more they are the same.
So it’s back to all-black, segregated leagues again.
I guess because the reason is different, it makes it ok.

So I to assume Mr. Johnson will be returning his salary....since slaves are not paid...
If the black community self-segregates its cultural and other influence and presence, I’m not going to want to stop them.
Bye! Let us know how that works out for ya Larry. It would be bankrupt within 5 years.
Sounds like something the KKK would say.
I’m waiting for the all-black hockey league......
I don't really know where to start, but looking at this statement I think we should question Mr. Johnson's grasp of written English. His use of "your" is incorrect, it should be "you are" or "you're". "To For Self!"? This has no meaning whatsoever.
This guy is an NBA executive? Personally I don't like the NBA much. If it disappeared I would not care. I think Mr. Johnson's idea is great. His new black league should last a couple of years at most.
It will be before the PBGA.
Larry, you stupid shit! They tried that in baseball already.
Wonderful idea. There should be a completely segregated sports league: all the players, coaches, officials, venue owners and staff, and spectators. Knock yourselves out.
I thought they lready had one that just let Caucaians play with them occassionally.
Isn’t it the Negro Basketall Association after ll?
I absolutely loath this thug ball sport.
I am not racist though...I feel the same about Hockey.
this lefty owner of the Clippers gets what he has coming, it couldn’t happen to a nicer Obama supporter. But I disagree with the reasons. a private conversation with a trophy girlfriend should not be broadcast to the world. the real question is who made this public and as the California law prohibits recording someone without their knowledge who will get penalized for doing this??
