Retired Supreme Court justice says marijuana should be legalized

WASHINGTON – Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens says he thinks the federal government should legalize marijuana.
The 94-year-old retired justice tells NPR that public opinion has changed on the issue.
Stevens also says that there isn't much distinction between marijuana and alcoholic beverages.

What the heck is all the pot hype about. This is for people who want to get high? I understand the medical part, but for healthy people to smoke weed to “feel better” amazes me. Heroin next? And where are the anti smoking Nazis when there is a REAL issue. This isn’t theoretical (and bogus) second hand smoke...this is encouraging people to smoke when it has taken us generations to stop. (Stop the world, I want to get off this ride).

If drugs were decriminalized, about 98% of the militarized police force would no longer be needed.No, the initial excuse for them would be gone. But those forces would still be needed by the powers that be... because they like having the control options that come with those forces.

...but not disbanded. They would be re-tasked to other duties like enforcing hate speech laws about queers and muhamheads or taking up your arms. I’d rather they stay on drugs and not move into other areas.
