SALEM, Oregon, April 24, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) The Marion County Board of Commissioners announced late Wednesday that they are putting a stop to a waste-to-energy facilitys program that was incinerating aborted babies to produce electricity.
The B.C. Catholics Steve Weatherbe revealed April 21 that the British Columbia government was sending fetal remains to the Covanta Marion waste-to-energy facility to be burned along with other medical waste. The story made national news after LifeSiteNews reported on the revelation Wednesday afternoon.
We are outraged and disgusted that this material could be included in medical waste received at the facility, said Commissioner Janet Carlson in a Wednesday statement.
We did not know this practice was occurring until today. We are taking immediate action and initiating discussions with Covanta Marion to make certain that this type of medical waste is not accepted in the future.
The board says it has called an emergency meeting for Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. to discuss the issue.
The British Columbia Ministry of Health said in an email to the B.C. Catholic that biomedical waste shipped to the U.S. to be incinerated includes human tissue, such as surgically removed cancerous tissue, amputated limbs, and fetal tissue.
The ministry understands that some is transferred to Oregon. There it is incinerated in a waste-to-energy plant, the email stated.
The ministry said that contractors handling the provinces biomedical waste follow health and safety protocols, as well as federal, provincial, and local regulations.
Kristan Mitchell, executive director of the Oregon Refuse and Recycling Association, told the B.C. Catholic that the biomedical waste likely ends up at the Covanta Marion waste-to-energy facility in Oregon since it is the only facility that uses waste to power the grid. The facility confirmed that it still receives and incinerates B.C. medical waste.
The power facility, located in Brookes just off the I-5, burns waste in two massive boilers at a temperature of about 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat transfers into water tubes, which creates steam to drive turbines. The turbines generate electricity.
This news came one month after the remains of more than 15,000 aborted babies were found to have been incinerated, along with other medical waste, to heat and generate power for British hospitals.
If I am horrified to the point that my forehead is numb, is that over the top?
We should remember that Carthage, and, indeed, all the baby-killing Baal worshippers, were deleted—so to speak.
I do suppose that disrespecting a baby’s corpse is not as heinous a crime as killing it in the first place. Even by comparison, though, it is callous, degenerate, repulsive.
You have to wonder what the contract actually states between BC and Oregon. Does it just say “medical waste” or does it specify what type of waste.
The Left defines liberty by having the right to kill.
"We're not in the business of burning bodies, whether they are fetuses or adults," said Jill Stueck, a spokeswoman for Covanta Energy Corp, which operates the garbage burner. No human fetuses were delivered to the plant, she said.
Covanta spoke with Stericycle Inc., the company that collected the medical waste in question, and was assured that no fetuses were sent to the Brooks plant, Stueck said. The Statesman Journal was unable to reach Stericycle for comment.
Commissioners Sam Brentano and Janet Carlson called an emergency meeting after Canadian media reported that aborted fetuses from Vancouver, British Columbia, were being sent to Marion County's garbage burner. The commissioner said they were first made aware of the issue on Wednesday afternoon.

Marion County has contracts with 15 to 20 companies that dispose of medical waste at the Brooks plant, county officials confirmed. It collects $300 a ton for medical waste brought in from outside of the county.
About 700 tons of medical waste a year is processed by the garbage burner, Brentano said.
Last month, The Telegraph, a British newspaper, exposed hospitals that incinerated aborted fetuses and miscarriages as clinical waste.
The Marion County Board of Commissioners told staff to begin investigating changes to county ordinances and contracts with medical waste customers to ban fetal material from disposal at the garbage burner.
"I am horrified," said Commissioner Janet Carlson. "There are not enough strong words to express how I am feeling."
The medical waste disposal contracts legally require 30 days notice before they can be terminated. Carlson demanded that the disposal of fetal material end immediately, even at the risk of lawsuit.

Marion County happens to be one of the few counties in Western Oregon that has a prayer of becoming red.
Can't say the word "Babies" I see.
Your just pissed it came to light. Have fun in hell.
I was thinking the same thing. Mass grave somewhere, but then a grave of any kind would be an acknowledgement of human life. Hauled off in the biomedical trash to the landfill? How is that not any more outrageous?
Those who value life, hold it sacred, the disposal of biomedical waste is outrageous. For the liberal left, none of this outrage has any meaning. It strikes at a very cold, hardened heart.
"Biomedical waste," government forbid anyone would call them Babies.
“Sorry we got caught”
“Sorry if your non-scientific feelings were offended”
“It’s just like tonsils”
They know that the optics of burning the bodies of 50million dead babies since 1973 does NOT look good.
Exact numbers don’t matter, the scenario is very similar to the Nazi ovens and they damn well know it.
Not a smidgen of corruption.
Just some rogue power plant employees in Cincinnati.
The cowardly “abortion is a choice” crowd will say “Incinerating the fetuses was wrong but I didn’t do it. It’s a choice that I would never make.”
And they are cowards. They’re afraid they’ll lose friends. It’s all about them. The world today is filled with narcissists. Thanks to everyone wins at t-ball and
2 + 2 is whatever you think it is.
OREGON, the sink hole of the west...
Now that is just disgusting.
Bumper sticker...
My Fetus was Inviable Tissue Mass of the Month at the Me-First Womyn’s Center
Or should it be Unviable?
If I understand correctly, these fetuses were at a very early stage of development. Just for the sake of argument, should each of them, even if they were less than a quarter inch long, have been given a burial in a cemetery? (many Christians believe cremations, not for energy use, are a fast elevator ride to hell) And how about an amputated arm? Should that be given a burial in a cemetery also? And if the answers are yes, wouldn’t we run out of room quite quickly?
