Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies mistakenly shot two hostages, killing one, earlier this week as the men fled a knife-wielding captor in West Hollywood, officials said Thursday ...
The Sheriff's Department's initial news release the day after the shooting made no mention of the mistaken identity and said the two people shot had "aggressed the deputies."

a police officer's greatest nightmare," Interim Sheriff John Scott said at ...
Pretty big nightmare fot the innocent guy they killed too I'd say. Still the "deputies got to go home to their families at night", and that's all that really counts, and the deputies felt really bad about it - not as bad as they'd feel if they were prosecuted for manslaughter as you or I would be, but I guess "We don't know the whole story."
I wonder how long this post will survive before being pulled or moved to chat.
“said the two people shot had “aggressed the deputies.””
they ran out of the building in the unfortunate direction of the police.
thats agression apparently
I lost track of the number of times someone behind the wheel was killed because they were “driving right at the officers”. Now I guess they’ve dropped the car requirement.
Obviously the victims' fault. They should have know better than run from the guy trying to kill them to the police (who actually were successful in killing one of them.)
FR should have a “jack booted thug alert” ping list.
The good old boy on the beat has morphed into the thug looking for a hit. They are nothing like the neighborhood police of past years. I blame much of hit on the TV cop shows with all cops in full swat gear, shouting “Get on the ground, get on the ground NOW”.
Oppsie daisy...
I am numb to this. The cops are out of control.
When I first heard this story I wanted to support the police. It could have been confusion in a fast moving incident.
They shot the hostage in their zeal to shoot the unarmed guy behind the hostage. They shot two unarmed people for the simple act of ‘running at the police’.
Afterwards the chief defended their actions. He didn’t say “we’re investigating”, he said the two unarmed people “aggressed” the police.
That’d get you shot for sure.
When they tell lies like this, that’s what bothers me most about these incidents. I understand that mistakes can happen in violent and chaotic situations, but this kind of reflexive lying casts doubt on the veracity of police statements in general.
Ridiculous shooting by three officers, all too quick on the trigger. The actual attacker was arrested without a scratch. Ridiculous.
The police can say whatever they want. It will be reported, and used in a court of law. The citizen has no recourse.
We are already in a police state.
Moral of the story. Don’t run to the police for help. You’re safer with criminals than the police
That butterfly is clearly "aggressing" the poor future policeman.
"He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:
I seem to remember reading something like this sometime before, but today's welfare parasites who voted for "the annointed one" seem happy with the situation
The larger moral is don’t live in LA
Well, at least the cops made it home safely. That’s the important thing.
I started reading the newspaper in the late ‘50’s. I read all the crime reports which were much more detailed then. They tended to give age, race and profession of everybody involved. The cops shot darned few people. Some of that may have been because everybody had a revolver then. (Remember Manix, Cannon, Hawaii Five-O? Six shooters all.) I know if I only had six shots I’d be darned careful with them. Another element might be those ludicrous Hollywood shoot’em-ups. Hundreds and hundreds of rounds fired to a thumping good rock beat. Fun, fun, fun. Also, my impression of the cops then was they were citizens in uniform, always willing to help. What we have now are under-trained paramilitary troops with delusions of Chuck Norris and Bruce Willis. The ones I’ve dealt with in recent years seem spring-loaded in the rude position. I get the impression they’ve divided the public into us/them.
