After NBC's "Meet The Press" host David Gregory ran an anti-ObamaCare ad targeting Sen. Mark Pryor from Arkansas featuring a couple with a southern accents questioning the confusing nature of the Affordable Care Act, Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker objected to Americans for Prosperity using people with southern accents in political ads running in Arkansas:
"I think you could find someone who doesn't have a southern accent who is confused by this act," Parker said. "We always seem to find the character who seems a little countrified, who can't just fathom this. You know there there are plenty of smart sophisticated people equally hazy about what is really going on."

LOL Winter Haven, Florida is definitely the south. I lived there for 12 years or so. It’s a small town, right in the middle of the state. Lots of agriculture, citrus, phosphate mining in nearby Bartow, and it is a very long way from Miami or Disney World or beaches or whatever it is non-Floridians think of when they think of Florida.
It was a nice place to grow up, frankly.
Ha ha.
Actually, Parker is one of the worst about stereotyping Southerners. In her case, her neighbors.
She doesn't much like where she's from...
That’s what I thought. But I’m from the South - what do I know?
Why does she have to put ‘Southern’ speakers down, when trying to make the point that people other that those who speak in a ‘countrified manner’ are just as confused about Obamacare?
Well bless her heart.
Parker is setting up any potential southern candidates from the Republican Party who will run against the Hildebeast. Senator Ted Cruz, with his Texas accent, comes to mind. I wonder what kind of Alinsky demonization will also come from the Left about Cruz's Cuban roots if he does run?
I hate deceptive titles.
I can turn my Southern accent off easily and speak with a clear Midwestern pronunciation. It’s very interesting and amusing to see how people from different parts of the US respond. Yankee women are the worst. They assume you’re slow and stupid. The Yankee men may make the same assumption, I’m not sure, but they don’t care; they love all that sugar.
“But look at the Yankee triumph of Detroit! Dayton! Chicago! Toledo! Buffalo!”

In New England we don’t consider those cities Yankee territory.

Hillary Adopts a Southern Drawl
The fact that Hillary did this does not bother me nearly as much as the fact that she actually thought it was the politically savvy thing to do. You would think that after all those years in Arkansas she would know better than to be that condescending to her audience.
Well, she is obviously a Racist, several times and demographics over.
It’s been my experience that people from the deep south are a lot smarter and more sly than they are given credit for.
Schenectady comes to mind....
If a democrat said something like: “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” They’d probably make him Vice President.
Kathleen Parker....not my favorite
Did not...to be honest ...disparage my kinsmen like title implies
Geez Breibert....get it accurate youse guys
Freepers like one size fits all and no nuance and their fingers are ways on the trigger hammer cocked
Kathleen said nothing wrong... in fact she was defending us
But what the hell....why let the facts muddy up a good beat down of a NeoCon
Winter Haven...Lake Wales....Frost proof....Haines City
All Dixie
Frankly most truly rural Florida is quite southern
From Everglades City to Clewiston to Okeechobee up 27 and 41 to the panhandle
The Mouse and Cubans and Snowbirds changed it but when I lived in Miami...80s....there were still southerners in MyAmUh proper....
New England doesn’t get to choose!
Speaking with an accent has nothing to do with being intelligent or “smart”. Ever listen to someone from Nuyoork, or Kalifornia, or Oklahoooooma or Nortdakoota?
