I’ve got a better idea. Take an old building on a military base in the area and convert it into a barracks facility for members of Congress. Let them live there free of charge while they’re in Washington doing the business of the people who elect them.

If I had my way, these bastards would be locked up in an old WWII style army barracks like I lived in when I entered back in 1968.

When the sessions are over, round their butts up and transport them to the chow hall in those semi-trailer cattle cars I’ve seen the Marines use, and then to the barracks and put under lock and key for the night. Then Rinse, Repeat as necessary.

If you think you are underpaid, leave Congress and go work in the private sector. Nobody is forcing you to stay in Congress.

With the state of modern communications there is no need for them to go to Washington at all. They can and should remain in their home districts and work at their real jobs. Making law should not be a full time activity, though a case can be made for a full time repeal of laws. A distributed legislature would also make lobbying much less convenient for the powers that be.

Among the Articles, Sections, clauses, and amendments to the constitution that are ignored by Rome-on-the-Potomac, is the XXVII Amendment:

“No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.”

Why not?

I could swear they consistently brag about being public servants.....

I never hear them say employees.

Quit and get a real job Moran.

Shorten the sessions, and let Congresscriters live at home where they belong. If DC is too expensive for our representatives, move the whole show elsewhere. In this age of the internet, what is the point of having that vile gaggle of elites dumping BS together? They could do conference calls.

Jim Moron wants you to think that the base salary is all they get. It’s only the tip of the iceberg.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Moran’s district is suburban D.C. That means he doesn’t need a second home in the district; all he does is commute like any other civil servant. So why is he complaining about his salary?

I'd be sympathetic but certain facts get into the way. With VERY rare exceptions, most elected officials serving more than a couple of terms, leave office much richer than they did when 1st elected. That kind of conflicts with Rep. Moran's 'poor mouthing', doesn't it?

Of course that recent reversal of the ban on 'insider trading' probably did not hurt this trend. Add to it the perks, connections and retirements along with the prestige and isn't it interesting how so many spend so much to be so poor?

"this is the board of directors for the largest economic entity in the world". I guess this is the most revealing part of that inane statement

They really do believe they're the bosses of the rest of us, not our servants. Sometimes they just can't help but show their true feelings.

the fact is that this is the board of directors for the largest economic entity in the world

The fact is that this is a band of thieves who, without authority, are attempting to seize control over the largest economic entity in the world.

More the reason to cause the Congress Critters to tele-commute from their home office. While not an original idea, it seems its time has come. Ith modern internet programs that allow online meetings and full interactions, these representatives of the people could perform from locations where the people, their bosses, could watch thems and supervise them and do it for 1/10th the cost.

And he can’t figure out how to live on $174,000.

tsk, tsk. Moran wants to further wealth inequality. After all, how many poor people in DC even get $174,000?

There's a perfect spot for all the Congresscritters to stay: The Greenbrier Resort.

In the late 1950’s and early 1960s, the Greenbrier was remodeled to add a wing that would house all of the U.S. Congress and other officials of the government in an underground bunker. This command and control bunker was to run the United States from in case of an attack by the Soviet Union.

The bunker is still there and waiting for our Congresscritter bigwigs. Although the bunker was decommissioned in 1992 after its presence was leaked, it still remains ready for occupancy. Therefore, make all the Congress use what the taxpayers bought for them; make them stay there while in-session. Make them conduct all their business away from DC and at the Greenbrier.

It’s DC, let them live in public housing. Most of these folks believe in big government, let them enjoy the product of big government.
