The Washington Post has fallen and it can't get up

Jeff Bezos, the multi-billionaire (via Amazon.com) new owner of the Washington Post has got a messy situation on his hands, and unless he steps in, it appears that his new property is in danger of losing the prestige that was its primary asset. After a false hit piece on the Koch Brothers claiming they were the largest holder of Canadian oil sands land rights was devastatingly debunked by John Hinderaker of Powerline (see also: Washington Post busted!), the authors of the incorrect article responded conceding nothing, not apologizing or retracting their falsehoods, but only made their situation worse. As Jonah Goldberg noted:

… they do a good case of laying out (some of) the reasons why they never should have written the piece in the first place. But then they close by claiming they were justified because the outrage their shoddy attack provoked proves the relevance of the Kochs.

John Hayward at Breitbart was even more direct, noting that the very first statement (“First, regarding the political leaning of the group that brought this story to our attention, our article makes clear its left-wing origins, the controversial nature of its earlier claims, and its political agenda.”) in the follow-up was a “lie”:

Go to the original Washington Post story and search for the words "liberal," "left," or even "progressive."  You will not find them.  Nowhere is the group that supplied the Post with its bogus report described as anything other than "activist."

The dispute has now broken out beyond the confines of the conservative blogosphere. Brit Hume, a widely esteemed figure in the Beltway power structure, tweeted:

The only time the WaPo had any sort prestige was when Ben Bradlee and Sally Quinn were at the top of the D.C. cocktail party "A"-list and they became so powerful as democrat king makers that they were given the power to control news. The Internet has justifiably taken that power from them and the and the influence of free thought is growing.

Liberals won’t admit to a lie. When they are completely backed into a corner, they will claim that they mis-spoke, or were misunderstood, or take out of context. It is never their fault. Rather than being sycophants for left wing fascists, the Washington Post reporters sit around their condos in Crystal City, drink wine, and fantasize that they are really like the reporters who portray them on the House of Cards TV show.

They wouldn't know real "investigative reporting" if it fell on them. The Obama administration has committed so many crimes that a Washington Post reporter wouldn't have to cross the street to find a bag full of scandals to expose.

The WaPo is in a hard position. Their left-leaning is what gives them access to the Obama administration and Dem politicians, and thus their sources for their stories.

If the WaPo suddenly started doing things like covering Benghazi and Fast&Furious, Obama would shut off their access, and Holder and the NSA would work at making sure nobody talked to them.

Lying is the essence of being for Leftists. If they could not lie, they could not be as they would find it impossible to reconcile their perceptions of the world around them with reality. They do not despair when caught in a lie, it just gives them another opportunity for more fame and glory by telling more and bigger lies. “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.”

My husband actually used that statement for real one time. One of his legs was not working and he tipped over his chair and landed on the floor. He was not hurt but he could not get up and I couldn’t lift him. He said to give him the phone, so I did.

He called 911 and said, “This is for real - I have fallen and I can’t get up.” There was a brief silence before the 911 person said, “Are you hurt?” He said no, he was on the floor watching TV but couldn’t get up. Finally, the 911 person was laughing with him and an ambulance did come and two strong EMT sorts came in and lifted him up on the chair. We were apologetic they had to come but they said that is part of their job, to help people in trouble and if we needed them again to call.

“I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” is a for real thing some times. :o)

With the shift from newspaper to internet as people’s source of news, it’s time for Breitbart and others to start looking to expand and take market share from these guys. At the very least starting their own newswire and adding news gathering locations to do hard news as a real news organization.

It actually was, we found out not long after that, cancer of the brain that destroyed the ability to send messages to the leg to move. He did die from that brain cancer.

Regardless of the outcome later, he did have fun that day with the 911 person and those EMTs. We talked about he would only die one day at one specific time, so we wouldn't dwell on death every day - instead we would live each day as normal, living our life, until some day in the future when death might happen.
