Sen. Rand Paul demolished his competition in the 2014 Washington Times/CPAC presidential preference straw poll on Saturday, winning 31 percent of the vote -- nearly three times the total of second-place Sen. Ted Cruz.
Mr. Cruz's 11 percent was still a big improvement for the freshman senator, who won just 4 percent in last year's straw poll. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson was third with 9 percent and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was fourth with 8 percent in results that signal growing discontent with the GOP establishment in Washington.
Indeed, CPAC voters now have an unfavorable view of Republicans in Congress, with 51 percent saying they disapprove of the job the GOP is doing on Capitol Hill. Just last year the GOP had a 54 percent approval rating, and in 2012 they held a 70 percent approval rating.

Ron Paul did win Iowa — http://blog.chron.com/txpotomac/2012/05/breaking-news-ron-paul-wins-iowa-yes-iowa/
Rand Paul is against illegal immigration and has introduced several pieces of border-security and visa-security legislation. He is the only potential Presidential candidate to have come out against giving illegal anchor babies “birthright” citizenship.
I don’t think that is where Paul is today.
Use your search button and look at everything you can - then report back with what you found.
Do you really not have any idea or are you just trying to declare him "unclean"?
——Neurosurgeon Ben Carson was third with 9 percent——
Ben might pull ahead down the stretch.......
He is a conservative that appeals to the campaign money providers that must re build the economy.
He wields a razor sharp stiletto that he inserts so silky smooth the victim doesn’t know he has been slain.
I think all there bought their tickets
——I would be much more interested in a Freerepublic straw poll——
I’ll second that interest.
Not just one, but perhaps quarterly to track the change in mood and attitude of Freeper opinion

Almost a shame to be on a Zot. To whomever made it, thank you.
Save your breath. Common sense won’t work. Too many paid shills on here supporting an agenda.
Both establishment parties fear Paul and people who support a tea party/smaller government/libertarian leaning agenda. Big business too. They wanna keep the status quo and the direction this country is headed. They are afraid of the will of the people and changes that the people support.
They will spread disinformation, attack & ridicule supporters, lay claim to what they say is best for the country, cherry pick unrelated extreme ideas and apply them to a cause or candidate and generally do everything they can to undermine a popular movement.
Both political parties, lobbyist organizations, think tanks, big business entities and even the NSA hire operatives to subvert political discourse on forums such as FR. It is pretty blatant and disgusting sometimes. You can tell when another PO was cut. These groups have alot to lose. Should someone like Paul reign in military adventurism, repeal the Bush Doctrine, or scale back the American military’s role from that of Team America World Police to that of any other cooperating NATO member, it would have profound effects on their profits.
Over time, the money at risk is in the Trillion dollar range. Of course they send shills here to tell you what to think!

Regarding Paul’s stance on birthright citizenship, you said “I dont think that is where Paul is today.”
It looks like you’re correct. Last year he apparently said that if the borders were made secure, then amending the Constitution to tackle the issue would not be necessary.
He probably has a decent point there. For example, the law could stipulate that a woman due to give birth would not be permitted entry except under certain circumstances. Green card renewals could be conditioned upon a woman’s not being pregnant. It would be messy to enforce obviously.
I suspect Paul’s position switch has more to do with politics of the matter. He wants us to follow the Constitution on one hand and on the other he’s trying to amend it. Could be he’s decided to put the amending on the back burner, work for border security, and see how it sorts out in the end.
Rand Paul is known for adapting his message to see that it’s properly received. He does stick to his principles though. Too different things.
You think Jim Robinson is a paid “shill” on freerepublic because he is against Paul and a conservative?
