The Russian Navy Ochakov Kara-class cruiser was sunk last night to block the Ukrainian Navy ships deployed in Novoozerne, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence said in a press release today.
The information was confirmed by the Ukrainian military of the South Naval Base who were observing the operation.
The RF ships blocking the Ukrainian ships in Donuzlav lake in the Crimea left the zone at 23.30 p.m. (March 5).
Then, the Russian military towed their ship Ochakov to the navigating channel and filled her with water. Then, there was an explosion. The depth in this area is 9-11 m, it is possible now to observe the upper part of the ship. Therefore, the ships cannot leave the Donuzlav lake. It is needed a lot of time and costs to refloat this ship, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense

As you say...
And was the act of a local security force who bought the explosives at a convenience store. ;-)
What’s next? Fire ships?
Take a look at Narva, Estonia. 93% Russian speaking and on the border with Russia. Russia was humiliated by Estonia in 2007 when they took down a famous WW2 Red Army memorial. They want payback. If Putin senses weakness now he might decide its time to roll tanks into a FSU NATO country. Estonia will invoke article 5. Then what? Shooting war with Russia or the end of NATO. It’s pretty easy to see where this is headed if Putin is not dealt with firmly now. That’s why this is so important. It’s about far more than Crimea.
Quisling comes to mind.
Bingo
I don’t really know which side is right on this. It could be they are both wrong. All I know is that if you really want to get things screwed up, let Hillary and Obama get involved and fix things like they did in Libya. That really worked out.
Naval blockades are considered acts of war.
they know Russia`s underbelly is Moscow.
All they goona do is ally with the Chechens to send couple nice-looking broads to Moscow to blow up their subways agin bigtime.
Watch for it!
Dredge.
“So if we had a different leader, we would go to war with Russia, or Russia wouldnt do this?”
I think if we had a real leader, our intelligence agencies would have been focusing on this and building up scenarios rather than focusing on bugging video ports and iPhones of heterosexual Christian men.
Wow ! Sounds like that Ukrainian naval unit can’t be surrounded by land. Beef up the forces there then clear that channel by any means.
For the Russians to do this demonstrates this was pre planned and our and other foreign spy agencies were caught flatfooted. Including sending in troops with unmarked uniforms to seize control over key installations and cities which the Russians are claiming are “locals”.
What some agency should do is snatch a couple of those camoflaged unmarked “aggessors” parading aound in one of those big towns and identify what Russian army units they’re with. Hand them over to the suitable Ukrainian ministry so that they could use this format. Parade the captives out, call for a UN meet, and make some noise.

Those Ukrainian ships and crew now belong to Mother Russia. Russia has ordered that all Ukrainian military personnel in The Crimea lay down their arms and either be part of the Russian Military, or be escorted to the Ukrainian border. They cannot escape now.
Where’s GreenPeace, Save the Oceans, the Sierra Club?
Silent,, everyone of them.
Probably learned if from the Japs during the Battle of Port Arthur. They bottled up the Russian fleet and sank the survivors with land based artillery.
OK.
Good points. One problem is Europe would not be helpful in this, as Russia is key to their energy needs now.
