President Obama will announce a $200 million commitment from nine foundations Thursday afternoon to bolster the lives of young men and boys of color. The funding is part of a larger initiative from the White House to bring private businesses, non-profits and local governments together to intervene in key moments in the lives of young black and Hispanic men to ensure they stay in school and eventually train for and get good jobs. As Yahoo News first reported, the cause will be a major focus of Obama’s—and the first lady’s—even after he leaves office. "I think it’s something that's deeply personal to the president and first lady,” said Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to the president and the Obamas’ closest friend from Chicago. “I’m sure their commitment to this initiative will be a lifelong commitment. This is not something they simply want to do while he’s in office — it will continue.” The president personally ordered his senior staff to come up with this new “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative in the wake of the shooting of Florida teen Trayvon Martin two years ago. Obama—who was criticized by civil rights leaders for avoiding race-based initiatives and conversations while in office—was deeply moved by Martin’s death, and tasked his staff with creating a holistic, research-based approach to helping young minority boys succeed and avoid violence.

What exactly is the point of training for a good job when Obama is pushing for barring them from entry level jobs and paying them not to work?

And while he’s at it, he should tell them not to make babies until they’ve graduated from high school, have a job and get married. Contrary to the Democrats’ agenda, it’s really not the taxpayers’ duty to feed the children he breeds

I think that’s the point - to bankrupt the USA.
If you can do it in a way that makes people think you’re being benevolent, so much the better.
Lets see, 6 years after taking office and now he decides to start to improve his public image among the black community which has high unemployment, the family is decimated by government policy at least in the inner city areas, etc. I guess things are not looking to bright in the polling from the community. One has to wonder what other damage this program will inflict assuming that there is an alternative motive besides making himself look good.
You’re looking at the unemployment issue and the destruction of the family from YOUR lens, not from theirs...
In their worldview, those two issues mean
freedom from having to work to support yourself
freedom from being tied down by another person

Yet another useless program from Washington that like most gov. programs will more likely exacerbate the problem than help. What black youths need most is stern discipline...something most of them never had. And the presence of Al Sharpton is this thing is a sure predictor of race-baiting following the inevitable failure.

I think you’re confused. We working, taxpaying, God-fearing, nuclear-family-raising, law-abiding Americans are the new slave class.
Our “overseers” are the federal government and its three-letter-agencies: IRS, EPA, DOJ, BATF (okay, four letter), TSA, DOE, FDA, ...
On the other hand, Obama’s brothas are the rising “entitlement class” — keeping the overseers in power. In return, they deserves them some bling out of Obama’s stash. Call it “reparations” if you wish.
And R-E-S-P-E-C-T. They demand lots of RESPECT. Got that, slave? :-)
