If its Friday on PBS, its time for conservative pundit David Brooks to bash the real conservatives. One of his favorite targets is Sen. Ted Cruz. On Valentines Day, PBS anchor Judy Woodruff announced We watched this drama play out this week, David, in Congress, which ended up in the Senate with Senator Ted Cruz of Texas essentially hanging some of his fellow Republicans out to dry. What was he trying to accomplish, and did he -- did he do it?
Brooks shot back: Nothing says Valentines Day like Senator Ted Cruz, our national aphrodisiac. Then he said the conservatives were allergic to strategy:
BROOKS: What he was trying to do is -- its unclear. There are a couple -- the official explanation was that he wanted Republicans to fight. He thinks there`s a spending problem in the country, and Republicans should fight harder before raising the debt ceiling, and they should get some spending reforms. That`s the nominal explanation. The effective explanation, he was going to force a lot of Republican senators, including Mitch McConnell, that are up, to force -- to make them cast an unpleasant vote, which is going to help make it harder for them in the primaries against a more rightward challenger. And so he put a lot of people in a tough bind.
And the basic problem have been here before. Theyre not all insane. They saw how badly it went last time, and they made a completely rational strategic decision, let`s just let it go and let`s move on and talk about something else. And that`s called basic strategy, nursery school-style.
And yet, somehow, there are some in the party who think strategy is bad. They just want to run into the wall again and again and again.

Abolish PBS Enough of government paid for propaganda
Judy WoodROUGH . . yuck . . Al what’s his name must be homo
I doubt Cruz gives a sh*t what this nobody thinks anyway. I know I don't.
That Brooks rant is absolutely incoherent.
I thought Obama was Brook’s aphrodesiac.
The left, of which Brooks belong, are truly afrain of Cruz.
Bump.
Just saying.
PBS and David are out saltpeter.
The effective explanation, he was going to force a lot of Republican senators, including Mitch McConnell, that are up, to force — to make them cast an unpleasant vote, which is going to help make it harder for them in the primaries against a more rightward challenger. And so he put a lot of people in a tough bind.
Good. Good for Cruz. He’s representing those who sent him there. He is DOING HIS JOB!!! And Cruz doing what he did, showed the true colors of the “establishment” Republicans. The line has been drawn, and you are either ON the side of the Constitution and rule of law, or you are not.
Our government is so backasswards that these media dumbasses don’t even recognize how upside down our system of governance is. And he calls himself a “conservative”?? HA! Loony toon progressive wannabe, if I’ve ever heard one. He needs to join the ranks of those he is protecting.
He thinks there`s a spending problem in the country, and Republicans should fight harder before raising the debt ceiling, and they should get some spending reforms. That`s the nominal explanation.
If Brooks was a conservative he would had said “he KNOWS there’s a spending problem in the Country and he is trying to force Republicans to be Republicans and work towards some spending reforms”
Brooks did not say this so he likely is not much of a conservative!
Everyone KNOWS government has NO PROBLEM spending money!
Cruz works t do his job. He reviewed his job description, set forth in 1779, and revised, I don’t know when, how or in what small way, since then, and he does his job.
That no one else does that is of no consequence to him. That it would be easier for him to do his job if he had a few more in government, in politics, who also did their job, might give him some motivation.
He will never disregard his job description, and join with the feinsteins (”I’ve been in the senate for twenty years and we don’t do things that way, we don’t read the constitution!”), and the McCains (”wackobirds”).
The constitution and that job description gives any one of them enormous power and that’s going to confuse anyone of the chatterers and the pols.
This is Daffy Duck level inane drivel, with apologies to Mr. Duck, who had the decency to belt out a pro American troops marching tune every once in a while.
Someone on Fox nailed it the other night when he said that both the democrat and republican parties fear and hate the Tea Party because they’re going to expose them both for the self-serving corruption that is the culture of Washington DC.
PBS = Affirmative Action for untalented broadcasters.
That's cool. I refer to the collective left as "our continuing Neanderthal moment'.
Beg to differ, David. Boehner, et al, aren't interested in "picking fights". They're about avoiding fights.
Their "strategy" is to lose. That way, they don't have to take responsibility for anything.
All the hate just makes Cruz all the stronger, we seen the very same thing with Reagan.
The crease in Cruz’ pants doesn’t crackle enough to satisfy Brooks, rumour has it.
