Extreme cold temperatures in New York City are taking their toll on transportation. Earlier this week, snow cancelled flights and slowed down the subway network. Now some ferry service is being suspended because the East River is freezing over.

hey, equal ice for everyone. Ask the Mayor.
Im sure the world is devastated.
Look for major flooding on the Red river in Fargo and Grand Forks. Most rivers in the US flow from cold to warm, and so the downstream thaws first. The Red flows from warm to cold - into Hudson Bay. All the thawing water flows into frozen flatlands, or at least it tries to. That coupled with lots of snow portends of major floods.
At the time of the founding of this country, the Hudson and East rivers would routinely freeze for several weeks during the winter. People would walk from Manhattan to Staten Island.
Anyways, these rivers freezing are simply more evidence of Global Warming, and if you question the logic, you hate science.
The East River really isn’t a river, it’s a tidal basin, connecting Long Island Sound with New York Harbor and is almost as salty as the Atlantic. It receives a small amount of fresh water from the Harlem River, and possibly from rivers draining into Long Island sound.

I keep seeing global warming stories because they know people are cold and they are telling everyone to ignore their own experiences.
LOL...NY'ers probably think so...
After all they think they are the center of the universe ...
In addition, the Harlem River isn’t a river, either. It catches the incoming tide that pushes up the North River (Hudson) and then runs south bound. When it meets the incoming tide at the confluence of the East “River”, it forms on of the worst pieces of river you’ll ever navigate.
Besides that, The East River can flow up to 8 knots on a swift, outgoing tide. Its NOT freezing over.

"Another global warming research trip! We're on our way!"
Good question, but somewhat off base.
The NYC immigration patrol has major problems, but it is with keeping the influx of NJ Conservatives out.
Hopefully for NYC, it is not a major problem, as NJ has very few of them as it has driven its share of Conservatives out too.
