Speaking to New Yorker editor David Remnick, Obama said he still viewed pot smoking negatively but that on the whole, the drug wasnt the social ill that its been viewed as in the past.
As has been well documented, I smoked pot as a kid, and I view it as a bad habit and a vice, not very different from the cigarettes that I smoked as a young person up through a big chunk of my adult life. I dont think it is more dangerous than alcohol, Obama told the weekly magazine.
The president said pot was actually less dangerous than alcohol in terms of its impact on the individual consumer.

My son’s best friend was killed by a drunk driver. She was 17.
That is what fried his brain.
The problem isn’t pot; the problem is Obama.
Also, pot, through the WOD, has been responsible as the excuse for curtailing our freedom through several administrations. I speak of such wonders as “civil asset forfeiture,” or the increase in power and violence of drug gangs, particularly the Mexican gangs, with the consequent excuses for no-knock raids and increased paramilitary SWAT-like activity by the police.
Precisely. The same thing also applies to other substances, like pain pills, diet pills, etc.
The thought a lot of people have seared into their minds seems to be "since pot's illegal it must be really bad and only really bad people do it".
Mr. Choom Gang speaks. Pot actually has a much greater impact on the individual consumer. For one thing, it can have a permanent impact in the form of either permanent stupidity (I saw this happen to one of my son’s friends) or paranoid schizophrenia.
Also, 50% of the teenagers involved in serious injury automobile accidents in Florida tested positive for marijuana. And it’s not even legal in this state.
When can we expect the Executive Order?
So he’s an expert on dangerous drugs now.
Is he going to use his pen to declare marijuana legal on a federal level?
“Government has no right to dictate what substances people can put into their bodies.”
Well, the government is definitely regulating everything — including medications that treat illnesses — there are many medications proven effective in Europe for various diseases that are illegal in the US.
Are campaign donations from illegal activity allowed?
I understand that on the local level they may be. But on the Federal level how can they be?
The reason I ask is this; if a person makes a donation to the DNC and that money ultimately ends up in Obamas hands how can it be legal?
He swore and oath to uphold the laws of the land and he is not enforcing them when it applies to marijuana.
He is right for once. But the war on drugs benefits his team (Statists and Govt Cronies), so his words are vacuous.
Of course it’s possible that the 50% number would show up for teens NOT involved in crashes also....
And every one of those people have imbibed dihydrogen monoxide.
Same difference.
I'm not saying pot should be legal, I'm saying the statement it's a gateway drug is ridiculous.
The war WOD is nothing more than a war on our constitutional rights and needs to end.
We have the most productive workforce in history, thanks to marijuana.

It’s been all downhill since alcohol was rehabilitated as the legal drug of choice.
I think most of the “gateway” incidences were caused by having to go to a dealer, who might try to convince one to try his other wares. “Hey Bogie! Ever tried hash? Coke? Try a little”
Hangovers....../s
yet more proof he is smoking something
Pot alters something in people’s heads. They are different after they start smoking. If you’ve known people who started to smoke, they are definitely different people afterwards. And the change is not for the better. They seem to lose their moral compass. They have an âI do not give a darn about thingsâ attitude, whereas before they smoked, they did care. It is an observable trait they all seem to have. The second thing is that they seem slower mentally. Where before they smoked, they were quick witted, now they are slower. There are other mental changes that are not so easy to describe.
“Obama says marijuana ‘no more dangerous than alcohol’”
Well, that’s reassuring.
