The Weather Channel asked its viewers Saturday to urge Congress to intervene in its business dispute with DirecTV, arguing that it can harm public safety if the satellite system pulls the network off the air for nearly 20 million viewers.
The network's contract with DirecTV expires at the end of Monday. If an agreement on how much DirecTV pays The Weather Channel is not reached by then, TWC will likely stop airing on the system.
The Weather Channel is asking for a "negligible" increase in what DirecTV pays to air the channel, spokeswoman Shirley Powell said. While hoping for an agreement, "right now it's not looking so good."
DirecTV notes that there are many other ways its customers can get weather forecasts.

Why should Congress get involved??
If it could harm public safety, then I think I should get free DirectTV.
It’s good for a laugh if nothing else.
NBC has done an excellent job of converting WC into a propaganda device for “climate change”.
And they have “news” segments from MSNBC.
The Weather Channel is pure Global Warming propaganda and hype. We used to watch it but haven’t in a very long time.
I’ve got DirecTV and have NEVER watched the Weather Channel (Too many environmental wackos). I’ve been safer than hell without it. This is goofy.
IT’s a contract dispute...keep the dang government out of it.

I noticed recently that there’s another 24hr weather channel at 361 - Weather Channel at 362.
The Weather Channel is not a public health necessity
Is there a business left that is able to survive without running to nanny government?
Skywarn.org has chapters throughout the country. These are the weather spotters and you can listen to their reports on local radio frequencies
“.......arguing that it can harm public safety if the satellite system pulls the network off the air....”
I don’t watch TV. That said I say Horses*&t to the above, and Bulls*&t to TWC, and their Globull Warming hype.
True GeronL “Why should Congress get involved??”
I thought I remembered someone bought the weather channel. NBC, explains a lot.
Who needs any sort of TV weather, when you can immediately get the weather for any city you want from the Net, instead of watching TV (and its commercials) until it gets to the thing you want to know?
If there is a hint of bad weather, the major channels are broadcasting nonstop.
When I want up-to-the-minute coverage of incoming dangerous local weather, I always turn to the channel that spends 95% of its its time covering national weather trends and spreading Global Warming propoganda.

I find the WeatherChannel useful for the little box I get when I push the red button on my DirecTV remote that shows the current temp and forecast for my location and 5 zipcodes I can enter. It helps me keep track of what the temps are where my relatives/friends live.
Weather Channel..you mean “look out the window and there’s the weather’ channel”?
Thank you. I’m adding it to my remote selection.
