NEW YORK) -- New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said he couldn't pick the Fort Lee Mayor "out of a lineup" at his news conference Thursday.
But, a photo posted on the governor's website, taken at a news conference on Dec. 8, 2011, shows Christie speaking on the issue of sick pay reform with several mayors, including Democratic Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich, at the National Guard Armory in Teaneck, N.J.
At his Thursday news conference responding to revelations that his top aides purposely snarled traffic in Fort Lee, N.J., Christie took steps to distance himself from rumors that the entire incident had been an act of political revenge against the town's mayor for declining to endorse the governor for re-election.
Not only did Christie say that he never personally asked for such an endorsement from Sokolich, but he added that "until I saw his picture last night on television, I wouldn't have been able to pick him out of a line-up."
"I don't remember ever meeting Mayor Sokolich," Christie said. "Certainly, I never did in that context," he said, referring to the rumored request for an endorsement.
(Christie did seek to clarify: "I'm sure I met him at some point at an event in Bergen County.")
It was the quest for revenge on the part of Christie aides, including his deputy chief of staff, Bridget Anne Kelly, that originally set in motion the traffic situation on the George Washington Bridge last September. Christie announced the firing of Kelly Thursday and declared himself "stunned by the abject stupidity that was shown here."
He didn't make any sense. Since he accepts responsibility, he should be charged with all of those crimes involved with that deliberate mayham. Accepting responsibility means accepting consequences, doesn't it?
The Liberals will over reach on this, and I am no Christie fan.
There may be more to come out, but if this is it, depend on Democrats to flog it anyway. They fear him against Hillary and will do their best to keep this alive.
I don't understand. I can pick Charlie Rangle, Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, etc. out of a line up.
What's the problem?

Might as well lower the flag to half staff...he's a goner.
He may well be a goner, but if so, that'll be no loss. America needs fewer, not more Vichy Republicans.
Sorry...the guy said he loves food. Bet he’s never been to the Y in his life and does absolutely no physical labor.
It’s not the mayor you moron. It inconvenienced the people who lived there. Not counting the lady who died because of you. Couldn’t sleep for two days? Interesting since you just mentioned you knew about it later. Time travel????
It is an interesting choice of words.
Oh.. never mind.
I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if this all came out because of Gates book on the Kenyan. “I thought we wuz pals Mr. Obama” Bwa ha ha the RINO gets screeewed!
He does love food, I’m sure of that but that doesn’t mean it isn’t where his goat is tied.
I guess I avoid it because I can see it in his face when he talks about it—it bothers him.
I think it’s more so I don’t feel bad poking his weak spot than it is about what I think of his feelings. :p
Sorry...that’s not exactly a bridge to nowhere. No way he didn’t know it was going to happen.
I have not been keeping up with this so what is it about? Why did he close the bridge, where did to go, etc? I have my own problems right now like having a so called friend lying to me for years. The creep!
He found out about it from PMSNBC, and he's as outraged as we are!
What really happened was that the facility managers shut down two of the three entrance lanes that feed the bridge from the local streets of Fort Lee. From what I can tell, other traffic wasn't disrupted and may have even flowed better across the bridge that day.
If there was a political side to this, it's probably driven by a long-running battle among various state transportation agencies who are trying to figure out why Fort Lee residents get three entrance lanes to the eastbound (NYC-bound) bridge, while the rest of North America -- including converging highways such as I-80, I-95, US Route 46, State Route 4, and the Palisades Parkway -- has to deal with the inevitable daily bottlenecks at the bridge.
Christie might survive all of this if the Republican primary voters remain so uninformed about everything political. Most probably don’t know about it at all.
I'll never forgive him for the "arm and arm" with Obama.
Put a pitchfork in that dude, his lard arse is done.
