A new study released Monday found that nearly half of all black males and almost 40 percent of white males are arrested by the time they are 23-years old.
The analysis of national data from 1997 to 2008 of teenagers and young adults’ arrest histories — excluding traffic violations — were published Monday in the journal of Crime & Delinquency.
While there was variation in the rate of arrest between black and white men, there was little racial variation in the arrest rates among women of different races.

Something statistically reeks.
And what percent get away with some crime(s) they committed?
Reminds me when Richard Pryor went to a prison because he wanted to talk to the black men there, because he felt bad that so many black men were locked up.
What did he say after he left? “Thank God We Got Penitentiaries!”
These are “self-reported” arrests. I think a certain percentage of youths would get a laugh out of telling the researchers that they have an arrest record.
“White Hispanics?”
It depends on where you are. Some break out black, white, and indian hispanics, some and some don’t.
This report only mentions White and Black, they don’t say anything about White Hispanics, Black Hispanics, nor Indian Hispanics.
My assumption is that fairly pure white Europeans wouldn’t be at 40%+ arrest by 23 years old levels. I think they folded some other races in to make Europeans look bad.
That does not sound right.

I don't buy it either. Maybe 4% and they moved the decimal point. The incarceration rates are so different that it just doesn't make sense. This study has been quoted about a bazillion times on the internet -- has anyone actually been able to find the study and read it?

DUI, a trace of drugs, or speeding can get you arrested.
Beware of any statistics. I notice they also include arrests for serious auto related infractions, like speeding, driving drunk, etc. I wonder how the numbers shake out by crime.
That's a good point. 40% of a majority would be a greater number than 50% of a much smaller minority of the population.
To those who don't believe the statistic: Don't you know "white" men who were arrested before age 23? I sure did. How many guys here were ever arrested for underage drinking, or trying to buy alcohol while underage, or getting smart with a police officer (probably while drunk), or getting into a fight with some other guy, or trespassing, etc.? The list goes on and on. As someone said above, it's all about the Y chromosome at that age.
I have heard that whites are being arrested more for Meth cooking and distribution, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was at the behest of that racist Holder.
You and I remember it the same way (as in my post 55 above). How many young men are arrested for underage drinking, smartmouthing a police officer, trespassing, trying to buy alcohol while underage, getting into a fight, etc... Like you said, it’s all about the Y chromosome at that age.

Yep. Like the US census considers Hispanics “white” unless the person checks the ‘non-white Hispanic’ block.
