A new study released Monday found that nearly half of all black males and almost 40 percent of white males are arrested by the time they are 23-years old.

The analysis of national data from 1997 to 2008 of teenagers and young adults’ arrest histories — excluding traffic violations — were published Monday in the journal of Crime & Delinquency.

While there was variation in the rate of arrest between black and white men, there was little racial variation in the arrest rates among women of different races.

The difference is that many white youths are scared straight by the experience while being arrested and jailed builds street cred among blacks.

I would have guessed 30% of blacks and 15% of whites. BOY, would I have been wrong. What's surprising is that a much higher percentage of whites live in middle and upper middle class homes than blacks, and yet whites trail blacks in arrest by not that much.

Was this a really good study--or was there a LOT of supposition and projection based on small numbers?

IOW, far more white males under 23 are arrested, sounds like racial profiling to me.
