Why Obamacare Will Only Get Less Popular

Lisa Myers has an excellent investigative reporting piece up at NBC News documenting how one small business is dealing with Obamacare. The quotes from the article are just brutal:

The 41 employees of Extreme Dodge in Jackson, Mich., are very familiar with trade-ins, but this year they’re learning about trade-offs as they come face to face with the new realities of health care. A few workers say they’re getting a great deal, but most have a severe case of sticker shock.

“I feel like I’ve been taken to the cleaners,” said Neal Campbell, a salesman.

...

“How is this helping the average American that’s working 40 to 50 hours per week?” said Terry Hardcastle, a salesperson. “How are we supposed to live?”

Cathy Smith, who’d hoped she’d qualify for a subsidy and made just a little too much money, had tears in her eyes. "You don't make that much money to begin with,” she said, “and the prescriptions are going to kill me."

...

"There are some people who do come out ahead, but I would say the overwhelming majority, they’re paying much higher rates and they have lower benefits.”

...

Among the hardest hit is Campbell, a salesman with a wife and three young children, all of whom are active in athletics. The premium payments currently deducted weekly from his paycheck will increase $77, to a total of $221 per week. “That’s a huge part of the budget,” he said. “We feel betrayed, lied to, and we're pissed off.”

Myers does report that, "A handful of the Extreme Dodge workers came out winners -- mostly low-wage earners who qualify for subsidies and therefore pay very little for insurance." But even those who think they come out ahead today should think again. If they happen to get a raise, or get married, the IRS could come back and demand all those subsidies back. Politico reports:

A key piece of the health care law gives Americans making less than 400 percent of the poverty line subsidies to buy insurance. But if buyers don’t alert the insurance exchanges to big life changes throughout the year — like a divorce, promotion or new job for them or a spouse— they could wind up with sticker shock at tax time.

...

All experts interviewed on the topic worried that most tax credit recipients do not have a clue about the new reporting responsibilities, noting that even policymakers are still trying to grasp how the process works.

In California alone, 38 percent of tax credit recipients are projected to have to pay back more than $850 — if no income changes are reported during the year, according to a September Health Affairs study.

Remember: President Obama delayed the employer mandate till 2015. So most Americans who have employer-sponsored health insurance really have not felt the Obamacare pain yet. That will change as more and more businesses make the same types of decisions Extreme Dodge did above. And when they do, Obamacare's approval ratings can only go down.

Even if monthly premiums are subsidized, the deductible isn’t.

When the takers go to the doc to take, they’ll not be taking. They’ll be paying the deductible for a few thousand $ worth. And that will piss them off.

lol

Unfortunately, the resulting riots will probably cause whatever political opposition there is to fully socialized single-payer medicine to crumble. Which is the intended effect.

Not sure if it is across the board, but some report that the ‘bronze’ plan deductible is $6,000.

That means that amount is paid out-of-pocket by the policy holder before any benefit amount is paid.

[I am not sure whether the deductible includes prescription drugs.]

This morning, FoxNews ran a new graphic showing the number who have lost their insurance at 6.1 million now — no longer 5 million.

More have lost insurance coverage than have signed up for Obamacare.

There will be a huge orchestrated outcry for single-payer. It has all been pre-planned.

Not exactly true. Those below 250% of the FPL get highly subsidized copays and deductibles. Some of those people qualify for $6 copays to see a doctor.

Hey but 1.1 million people have managed to sign up for Medicaid so that the administration can say they signed up for 0bamacare.

Well we sounded the warning bells but the the Obama administration, the MSM cheerleaders, and his supporters told you that we were anarchists and your enemies while we tried to save your butts but you wouldn’t listen. You fell right into his trap and he has you where he wants you. Next he will go for your guns, then take away all of your first amendment rights as he decides whether you fall into the productive or useless class before he decides “when” to end your lives.

It will only get a reaction when enough obamacare supporters start dying from it. Maybe Nancy Snyderman’s kids will be the first to go since she made them sign up as a patriotic duty.

“How is this helping the average American that’s working 40 to 50 hours per week?” said Terry Hardcastle, a salesperson. “How are we supposed to live?”

Of course, that's the whole point of Obamacare. Productive, hardworking Americans are expected to pay for the freeloaders.

If Terry wants a better deal the solution is to get fired and go on welfare. Then health insurance will be free.

Punish hard work and success, reward failure and corruption...

Just waiting for O to delay the employer mandate until after the mid-term elections. I'm surprised he hasn't done it already.

Senior Citizens will be the next group who will be pissed off when they find out they will lose their Medicare supplement if it was part of their retirement package when their former company drops their group plans.

2014 will not be a good year for RATs especially all the traitors who voted YES on DeathCare.

How many Obama voters will actually come up with $6,000 to pay a $6,000 deductible when they get something serious? They won’t. There will lots of non payment of deductibles especially by the illiterates and other gimme girls and gimme types

The title suggests that Obunga care actually IS currently popular.
Somewhat of a stretch, IMHO
“OBUNGACARE WILL BE AN EVEN BIGGER TURD IN THE FUTURE!” would be far more accurate, IMHO.

When the bronzees, subsidized and unsubsidized, realize that they are going to pay thousands before anything other than preventative checkups and birth control pills are covered, that their plans are just the same catastrophic plans they could have gotten for 1/3 the price - that's when the backlash starts.

When Joe Bronze breaks his arm and it still costs him 3K$.

It's the first time most moderate-ish Americans will experience directly that it's Obama's policies, and not the evil rich conservatives, causing them misery.
