National ID headed for your wallet, purse Homeland Security to require digital features in driver's

Just as you were wrapping your mind around the idea that under Obamacare and the accompanying changes in the health-care system, your medical records will be floating around in some online repository, available to far too many people, you’re being told you’ll soon have a National Identity Card and a Western Hemisphere-compliant travel document whether you want it or not, if you plan to drive in the United States.

The federal government says it soon will be enforcing its demands that state-issued driver’s licenses and ID cards comply with Department of Homeland Security standards.

DHS announced just before Christmas a final schedule for the full enforcement of the REAL ID Act of 2005.

That was set for a phased implementation beginning in January 2014 and full-scale enforcement planned no later than May 2017, at which time the federal government will no longer accept state-issued driver’s licenses and ID cards that do not meet the minimum security standards set by DHS.

For many Americans, the full implementation of the REAL ID act is certain to trigger unfortunate memories of World War II and the modus operandi of fascist, totalitarian states, where travelers and ordinary citizens on the street are stopped by authorities and demanded, “Your papers, please!”

In the U.S., the justification for the REAL ID Act of 2005 was the concern for enhanced travel security after the 9/11 Commission documented several of the 9/11 terrorists had valid state-issued driver’s licenses and were able to freely board airplanes even though they were terrorists who had entered the U.S. illegally.

Full title: National ID headed for your wallet, purse Homeland Security to require digital features in driver's license

Wonder what the penalty would be for tampering with the digital card?

The Gestapo DHS can suck it. As far as their bastard son, the TSA, they can suck it, too. I won’t be flying any more in my lifetime.

As far as I’m concerned, they are an invading army of ideological ogres doing the bidding of tyrants.

Who does this idiot think he's kidding? LEOs ALREADY do this and have done so for years, only the exact wording is now: "Licence, Registration, and Proof Of Insurance" sung in a particular monotomic cadence.

Let Me take a guess: he only bicycles to and fro to places or at the most takes public transportation anywhere he goes.

No, that would be voter intimidation. The card will be required for everything else.

And they STILL won’t require folks to show it when voting...
Or they’ll issue it to Invading Barbarians, no question asked.

I have NO problem with this. Many states have been far too lax when it comes to drivers licenses. In addition, it would disqualify any state that allows drivers licenses for illegals to have that state’s license accepted as proper identification for domestic air travel. Then let’s see those who favor illegals bitch when they can’t get on a domestic flight without a passport.

Texas drivers licenses have been compliant for years. The debate here at the time focused more on the unfunded mandate issue, but all the hardware is now in place.

Does this mean that illegal aliens such as Barry Soetoro will be deported?

“I won’t be flying any more in my lifetime.”

Never mind the wide open borders and that little thing about 400 MANPADS and other shoulder launch missiles that mysteriously came up missing from the CIA compound in Benghazi after the 9-11 attacks.

Here in Wisconsin, you can opt to get a NON-REAL ID card. For the Feds, you can always get a passport, and keep it at home when you aren't traveling. While the Feds may not recognize the non-REAL ID card, the other states do.

Those Surface-to-Air missiles were Obama’s contribution to the Al-Qaeda-backed Syrian Muslims in Syria.

That man is a jihadist Muslim, period. Nothing he says, does or promises does not contain an ulterior purpose that does not include the destruction of this country and the advancement of radical Islam - NOTHING.

My current driver's license has a magnetic strip and optical bar code on the back. The past few licenses may have been accidentally sitting under a tape degausser when it was turned on (can't read it? Well, I must have bumped my wallet against a magnet at work. Oh, well.)

However, with the easy availability of cameras and accurate OCR, those strips are old info. Just snap a picture of the front of the ID and the name, address, license number, etc. can be read and cross checked against the state database. The point I will get worried is when they start requiring RFID so that your license can be "checked" without you ever knowing it has been scanned.

Washington state has holograms imbedded. I saw how they worked at an airport. The TSA person shines a spectrum light on the DL and the holograms bloom. Can’t print those in there since they’re invisible until lighted up.

well if you have a driver’s license and desire to continue driving you will have to have your birth certificate and a verifiable social security number. If you live in one of the 21 states that have already complied it has already happened to you.

You will not be able to ‘prove’ who you are so you will not be hired or given medical care or anything else.

If you want to avoid all of this I hope you live on the land far from an urban center and are skilled in 19th century farming techniques

I could live with a national ID if it meant we could get invaders out of the US, and keep them out.
