When America has troops deployed in combat operations, we need either an automatic mandatory corporate and personal surtax, or commensurate budget cuts in services that will actually cover the costs of that war. The current generation must cover current costs, and also the after costs to replace equipment and take care of those who fought it. Politicians should never be permitted to make going to war an easy event where most citizens are not required to sacrifice.
It still upsets me that W and Congress initially played games with the wars to keep them off budget, and make the public believe it would involve no sacrifice.
