The suspension of Phil Robertson from A&Es Duck Dynasty is outrageous in a nation that values freedom, according to social critic and openly gay, dissident feminist Camille Paglia.
I speak with authority here, because I was openly gay before the Stonewall rebellion, when it cost you something to be so. And I personally feel as a libertarian that people have the right to free thought and free speech, Paglia, a professor at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, said on Laura Ingrahams radio show Thursday.
In a democratic country, people have the right to be homophobic as well as they have the right to support homosexuality as I one hundred percent do. If people are basing their views against gays on the Bible, again they have a right of religious freedom there, she added
Robertson has been suspended from Duck Dynasty due to comments he made to GQ that have been deemed anti-gay. According to Paglia, the culture has become too politically correct.
To express yourself in a magazine in an interview this is the level of punitive PC, utterly fascist, utterly Stalinist, OK, that my liberal colleagues in the Democratic Party and on college campuses have supported and promoted over the last several decades, Paglia said. This is the whole legacy of free speech 1960s that have been lost by my own party.
Paglia went on to point out that while she is an atheist she respects religion and has been frustrated by the intolerance of gay activists.
I think that this intolerance by gay activists toward the full spectrum of human beliefs is a sign of immaturity, juvenility, Paglia said. This is not the mark of a true intellectual life. This is why there is no cultural life now in the U.S. Why nothing is of interest coming from the major media in terms of cultural criticism. Why the graduates of the Ivy League with their A, A, A+ grades are complete cultural illiterates, etc. is because they are not being educated in any way to give respect to opposing view points.
There is a dialogue going on human civilization, for heaven sakes. Its not just this monologue coming from fanatics who have displaced the religious beliefs of their parents into a political movement, she added. And that is what happened to feminism, and that is what happened to gay activism, a fanaticism.
Oh please....everyone knows that deeply held Christian beliefs ARE hate...
Once A&E gave GLAAD what they wanted, and suspended (fired) Phil Robertson, they immediately sent out a response effectively stating that any advertiser or company that uses Phil as a spokesperson must also distance themselves from him, ‘lest their silence be properly interpreted as agreement.’
Yep, freedom of speech - you’re free to make a speech saying what we want to hear, or we’ll rainbow flag you!
I honestly hope that both A&E and GLAAD get taken to the woodshed here.
Doesn’t this look like a character from the Big Bang Theory?
In a democratic country, people have the right to be homophobic as well as they have the right to support homosexuality
Being a Professor obviously does not necessarily mean intelligence.
1. We do not live in a democratic country. We live in a Representatuive Republic.
2. This issue is not about homophobia. It is about the Word of God. About sin and immorality.
I know which side I’m on without hesitation!
****people have the right to be homophobic****
She won’t truly be intellectually honest until she loses that stupid canard.
Pajamaboy does look a little like Leonard, but he looks even more like Rachel Maddow.
And let me add item 3. Just because most people cannot see the value of mainstreaming sodomy into our society (i.e. one guy putting his penis into another guys butt), that doesn't mean they are 'homophobic' (i.e. having an irrational fear of homosexuals).
A big hug to another sober and sane human being in a drunk and insane world.
Camille Paglia is a cut above the average anti-intellectual Liberal, but the issue of this word - “homophobia” - needs to be addressed.
The suffix “-phobia” denotes an unreasoning fear.
For the vast majority of us our reaction to homosexuality is not unreasoned, nor is it fearful. It is simple revulsion and disgust, combined with the moral resolve that such acts are in their essence unnatural.
The canard of “phobia” has been perpetrated by the Left to control the debate where there should be no debate at all, by inferring that we are raving ninnies who are tantamount to those who (back in the 50s) saw Communists under the bed.
The irony being, of course, that those Communists were really there all along. They are out from under the bed now, holding positions of power in the media and Washington while the bed is being used by the faggots for their unnatural perversions.
Bump
“Doesnt this look like a character from the Big Bang Theory?”
Looks more like some guys boyfriend from Glee.
...”Camille Paglia once again being intellectually honest. I’ve noticed on the pro Duck Dynasty Facebook pages quite a few people claiming to be homosexual, while disagreeing with his statements, actually supporting Phil Robinson’s right to state them. Most of them realize he was voicing his opinions based on his deeply held Christian beleifs, NOT out of hate..”...
The homosexual activists who are in the media, entertainment, the government and academia are tolerant only if you agree with and promote their lifestyle 100% of the time, no discussion allowed. Otherwise, they believe in fascism and censorship which we are seeing in the case of Phil Robertson. Now, we will see whether the 2% of the 2% of this American homosexual population will win a big one for fascism or whether freedom of speech for the 98% will prevail. A big thanks to Camille Paglia for her thoughts.
(I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.)
Exactly right. “-phobia” is the incorrect suffix. The correct suffix would be “-sardony,” based on the Greek “sardonios,” meaning “scornful laughter.” So, “homosardony.”
Thank you! As I read the article and began to scan down the comments
I was mentally raging against the very thing you have addressed.
Perhaps there are rare individuals that having been molested as a child developed a “phobia” towards homosexuals
but for the vast majority of us it is just the common sense recognition
that homosexuality is a perverted behavior expressing an underlying mental and spiritual illness.
My conversations with homosexuals indicates that they appear to have
disproportionately suffered sexual abuse as children compared to heterosexuals.
She wont truly be intellectually honest until she loses that stupid canard.
^^^^^^^^^This times a 1000 -- I generally like what she is saying here and getting her to understand words have meaning would be a big improvement. In fact, I'm thinking of copying her statement over to a Face Book response to a post from a tolerant lefty I know who wrote "Gone - that's what you'll be if I see your "Like" on a Support Phil Robertson post."
Leonard might wear a Star Trek pajama set or perhaps a Spider Man pajama set or even a pajama set with physics formulas printed boldly all over it... but even Leonard wouldn’t be seen looking like a fag from fruitville in that footsie poo outfit. I’d bet that it has a button down flap in the back for easy access!
