One Christmas display in Newton has pitted neighbor against neighbor.
The home glows with holiday cheer in one Newton neighborhood: Santa, snowmen, baby Jesus in a manger. For the Hunter family it's an electric display of the Christmas spirit, but someone sent them a letter saying otherwise.
Not everybody in the neighborhood is Christian and many people do not wish to see such a flagrant display of your beliefs, said Kelly Hunter, received complaint.
The letter was signed only "your neighbors." The person who wrote it complained that the trimmings are tacky.

“Your neighbors.” Maybe. More likely the town crank. Best thing to do with a letter like this is to ignore it.

If the issue is not important enough for the offended party to bring it to me in person, it’s not important enough for me to worry about it.

I go back with a Christmas card and put it in their door. I thank them for the display. Tell them how good it is to see it. Wish them a Merry Christmas.

Very nice gesture.

First they said they just want the religious displays out of the public square because it is unconstitutional, and that it fine to have it in your yard. Now they want it out of your yard.
The next obvious step is out of the house, because why should the children be subjected to the parents' religious beliefs?
Then, stamp religion out of our hearts and minds. Mission accomplished.

Yes, many otherwise tolerant Jews are made uncomfortable by over-the-top Christmas displays.

I've got a yard sign similar to this one in my front yard ...
It's based on the car magnets that many KofC councils sell.
My council builds and sells the signs every year.

The correct response would have been to tear the letter up and not contact the media like its a BFD.

I have begun to do the same! I’m so thankful to see these displays and wish them to know that someone truly appreciates them.
There is a town not far from me, I kid you not, every other business and home has a nativity scene. It’s a joy to drive through there.
