The lawyer killed by carjackers at an upscale New Jersey mall gave up his life to protect his wife.
Dustin Friedland had just let his beloved spouse Jamie into their luxury SUV, packed with holiday gifts. He was walking around to the drivers side when two crooks ambushed him and demanded his keys, a source close to the investigation told the Daily News.
He knew his wife was in there and he refused, the source said Monday. The brave Hoboken attorney resisted and in the struggle four shots were fired, one of which mortally wounded Friedland, police said.

The second-worst thing that could happen is that news stories are plastered all over the media telling the public that two black men were seen at the Short Hills Mall.
Seriously -- From what I've seen, I don't think the management of that mall would even be comfortable with Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman walking around there.
Any description of the criminals?
One of the first articles I read about the carjacking/murder, ID’d the two as “black men”. That reference was scrubbed later in the morning.
I am familiar with that mall. It is a direct shot down to Newark which one would arguably call the Oakland of the East. Besides that, it is not far removed from various black communities, some of which are affluent, so assuming blacks don’t shop there would be a misstake. Not all blacks are criminals, those who live near that mall more than likely are as far removed from the rable that populates Newark as are Obama and the truth.
But, but, but New Jersey is a gun free zone, for everyone except the outlaws.
I’ve been to that mall dozens and dozens of times. I don’t know what the solution is here, but that mall does have what I thought was pretty high tech security.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the cops know exactly who and where these fools are by now... The green Suburu and its license plate must have have been caught on camera, but there has been scant mention of that in any of the articles I’ve been reading.
Hang ‘em high !!! (oh wait - this is New Jersey)
Thank goodness NJ doesn’t permit that wild redneck concealed pistol business, or the wealth redistributors might also have been killed.
Tell only problem I see is that NJ doesn’t allow CC, had this man been allowed to defend his wife with a firearm the results may have been different, in fact they may not have tired to rob him at all had they known that he may have a firearm...
If only nj wasn’t a communist state and did not trash the Second Amendment... amongst others. I will never again set foot in ny or nj.
From the video footage:
Note: That was a joke...
I was once aked why I would carry a gun to a shopping mall. My answer was so that I’d be armed when got back to the parking lot.
Strange how you can read an article such as this and know the perps are black, at the same time you can also know the victims are white.
Although it is a presumption, it is one that is remarkably accurate up to around 80 to 90 percentile.
Please don’t ask for link to some study, it is just my personal observation, I did consider changing the you’s to I’s, in my comment, but decided to let it stand.
Tell only problem I see is that NJ doesnt allow CC>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Who really give a sweet eff? People be carryin’ now no matter what de law say. The 2nd amendment cover it, mawn. One concealed in de car and one in de back pocket.
And a 12 ga in de covered floor bracket.
Up wif de counter revolushun, mawn!
Why couldn’t you just let him figure it out for himself?
Too bad that subjects in New Jersey aren’t allowed all of the free rights of a citizen. The man could have had a fighting chance.
The law in New Jersey states that people must show “justifiable need” if they want permits to carry handguns.
Any guesses whether the state would have deemed this lawyer to have “justifiable need” 5 minutes before the shooting.
Interracial violent crimes ARE (according to stats) 90% as you describe.
Nice comment. Sunday late AM we were going to HH Greg in Jacksonville. I always have at least a handgun in the car and sometimes take it with me. Saturday was one such time. As we pulled up to the store, the virtually empty parking lot contained one obviously mentally unstable BMA walking haphazardly across it. As I exited the car, put the gun on, and my wife was curious why. I asked her did she not see the guy who just walked by and she said yes but he is 50 yards away and going away. I said what would stop him from being here when we come out with our purchase? Conversation over.
My wife always gives me the evil eye when we are out shopping and she puts her arm around me and realizes I’m carrying.
