EX-OFFICIAL SAYS FBI CAN SECRETLY ACTIVATE AN INDIVIDUALS WEBCAM WITHOUT THE INDICATOR LIGHT TURNING ON
The FBI can secretly activate a computers webcam to spy on an individual without turning on the indicator light, a former official revealed to the Washington Post in an article published Friday.
According to the Washington Posts account of what Marcus Thomas former assistant director of the FBIs Operational Technology Division in Quantico said, The FBI has been able to covertly activate a computers camera without triggering the light that lets users know it is recording for several years, and has used that technique mainly in terrorism cases or the most serious criminal investigations.

This is the reason you aren't allowed in a classified brief or a SCIF with your cell-phone. It's not about YOU recording something classified...its about SOMEONE ELSE using your phone to do it without your knowledge.
And its the reason that every intel guys first words in a classified brief are "Last check that all cell phones are outside the room...the briefing is classified SECRET/NOFORN"
The simplest of backdoor tricks, and the US has worked with antivirus providers since the early nineties to get them to “unsee” their backdoors.
Most US tech firms are praying at the Obama-altar these days, to the point of having their “leading lights” be members of occupy. IBM’s David Chess is one.
flat screen tv spying on you?
not news.
not at all.

(Chaplin was a British commie working in USA movie industry, ...whose politics infuriated the powerful Wm Randolf Hearst, who got him deported ... on the grounds of Charlie’s relationship with the underage Ooma, but all that’s another story)
What’s a webcam?
Oh my!
Duct tape leaves a sticky residue of adhesive. I use a corner of a post-it note.
For your *Tech Ping* list ...
Must be frustrating view the back side of the masking tape I put over ours .... haven’t received a request to remove it yet from the FBI or NSA.
It’s in your control panel settings. But the band-aid sounds like a good solution to me. Saves getting electrical tape adhesive goop on your camera lens for when you do want to use it for Skype someday.
Glad to hear! Hey, having chauffeurs is pretty luxurious, until you get the hand controls for the van. Enjoy!
I never have trusted the “cloud”
Companies for years have been selling storage (back up your computer, we will put it all in the cloud!) offers.
Who wants all their computer info on someone else’s server/computer. Or cloud...
I asked a friend a while back if he has enough storage on his phone for all the pics he takes.
He said all his stuff is in the cloud.
I aint going to mention this to my wife.
So I should stop mooning my webcam?
The problem I see is that they are so busy listening, watching us, they miss the terrorists e.g., the Tsarnaev brothers Russia warned them multiple times, yet they ignored and clearly werent watching them or listening to them.
The most important point of all.
I’d excuse the National Snooping Alliance if they caught the Tsarnaevs and even maybe bugged their neighbors and friends - or an innocent guy with the same last name - for a while. But this is so egregious and the evidence shows it’s being used for political purposes. We demand our 4th amendment rights.
I downloaded the screen shot. It’ll only be for your own pleasure at this point.

Yeah I think Paltalk bought it. I thought they would continue with Firetalk, but they s-canned it and forced anyone that wanted a program like that over to paltalk.
I phased out all together when that happened.
The FR room on Firetalk was quite...interesting. A lot of fun.
I scotch-taped a little piece of paper over the lens. Seems to work fine and doesn’t gum up,the lense when I want to use it. A friend uses a small post-it
As smart as I am, I had not seen that little clear plastic strip over that area at the top of the plastic strip above the screen. You can't see that area once you open the computer - that whole strip looks solid black. Had to get light right on that bit to see it.
Now, I have control over that camera and that's good.
Other than that, I got into amateur radio in a big way and have been having fun there meeting folks of like mind and telling the rest of the world not all of America is a bunch of knee-pad wearing Obama supporting morons....
You'd be amazed what the rest of the world thinks of the moron in the White House ... it ain't good.
